Wow! What an upgrade from that mess a couple of years ago. Here we have the sequel to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from 2014 from Michael Bay's production company. That movie was hot, hot garbage to me. THIS movie was a much better improvement.
***Like, spoilers dude!***
This movie has EVERYTHING. Action, adventure, and of course, love. We get to see Krang on the big screen and he does not disappoint. With the CGI he does look pretty wicked. The CGI is kinda hit or miss. The fact that the turtles have lips, really weirds me out. Bebop and Rocksteady were amazing. They made me very happy. They were the perfect amount of violent and goofy. I really wanted more of them in the movie. I mean, dont get me wrong, there were a ton of great moments with the rockin' duo, but more wouldn't have hurt.
With most of the original cast back, this movie picks up 9 months after the incident with the Shredder in New York. The turtles are still secluded and the public has no idea that they are protecting them. They are teenagers and act the way teenagers do with nutrition and duties. They enjoy watching the Knicks play basketball. We get the angst teenage attitude with all of the turtles, but you can really see it Michelangelo. He just really wants to be with humans. He just wants to be apart of their world. *cue the Little Mermaid song, "part of your world"*.
The plot to the whole movie is simple. Shredder breaks out of jail and randomly gets sucked into Krang's world. A mission is established to help bring Krang to our dimension. Krang gifts Shredder the "ooze" that creates Bebop and Rocksteady, while April steals it and the turtles may be able to turn into humans. The human aspect drives the turtles apart. Bing, bam, boom, Krang gets to our dimension and the turtles defeat him.
The acting wasn't the best. I felt that Fox fell so flat. The only good thing she was able to do was her "smolder" look for the camera. Casey Jones was a fun surprise. I really enjoyed him. Stephen Amell, I thought, was a good choice. It was a little weird that he was a cop, but I feel like he did a good job. All the turtles were great. Every turtle had the same personality that we grew up loving. Added new player to the series was Tyler Perry as Doctor Baxter Stockman. I loved him, he had to be my favorite.
This movie has holes. This movie may not be the big, big summer blockbuster that Michael Bay would want, but this movie is fun. I will admit it is better than the first one, and it has legit good laughs. The brothers are all there for each other like family should be.
This installment gives me a little hope. Of course they leave the movie open for another one, and I feel optimistic that it would be better than this one.
If you are a true turtle face, you should go see this. I promise, you will enjoy some of the scenes and maybe even the movie as a whole!
