Days ago, I had the opportunity to see Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice (reviewed by ENR's very own Lisa "Spazzy" McCarty back in early April) in movie theaters as I did not want to miss out on watching this now-landmark in the history of American superhero movies before it is no longer available for access in cinemas. Although I respected its director Zack Snyder's efforts in setting his version of Batman's first encounter with superpowered beings apart from the way DC Universe canon usually depicts it, I personally felt turned off by the last several minutes due to the direction it took in terms of Superman's role. To be honest, I was so disappointed that now I am unsure about if I ever wanted to see this iconic character again in any future live-action screen productions. So while I despised the ending as a Superman fan, I accepted the dark violent tone as a fan of both Batman and Wonder Woman. Read more...

Looking back, it has been over a year and a half since I wrote the first review I ever did for ENR that focused on a Superman-centric piece, and I am sure some of you who visit this website on a regular basis remember that review (for those of you who do not remember, it was reviewing Superman: The Third Kryptonian). Odd case scenario, since that review, I have still been, for the most part, finding trouble looking for major Superman solo comic stories to actually catch my interest with all of 2015 seeming to be a downer year in the sense of the lack of new Superman-centric storylines to get me excited in exploring more of the new age of Superman comics, but I still managed to find the man of steel himself playing a supporting role in some DC storylines I enjoyed. 300-rise-of-an-empireWhen Zack Snyder's live-action adaptation of Frank Miller's acclaimed graphic novel 300 was released, movie-goers everywhere beheld a visual spectacle like no other. With splashes of artistic violence, surreal imagery and high doses of testosterone, we were treated with a film that was like no other. Now director Noam Murro takes the helm for the prequel/sequel (events take place both before AND after the first film), 300: Rise of an Empire, and it looks to expand the story of King Leonidas' assault on the Persian Empire. The film also promises to delve more into the "God King", Xerxes (played by Rodrigo Santuro). Read more...

world_s_finest_promoMan of Steel, regardless of what you thought about it, was definitely one of the talking points of this year's superhero movie entries. There were some huge changes to Superman lore; a re-imagined origin, a modernized costume (no pants on the outside!) and an ending that redefined the Man of Tomorrow for a whole new generation. It divided audiences; some couldn't believe what they had seen while others (including myself) clamored for more. It thrust Superman into a moral quandary, one that would alter the way we thought about the character forever. It's these character changes that have me even more excited for the sequel - Superman vs Batman. Zack Snyder recently met with Kevin Smith to discuss Man of Steel before the DVD/Bluray release this week and teased upon some of the story points that may or not be included in the 2015 movie. I want to cover some of the points I'm most excited about seeing and issues I hope to be addressed in the sequel that could prove to be the Worlds Finest comic book movie (see what I did there?!)   Read more...

GTA-5_2613135bThis is the last Hot or Not for the summer of 2013, next week will officially be fall and we’ll be closer to all things pumpkin related. Pumpkin pies, pumpkin lattes, pumpkin carving, Great Pumpkins and all those other pumpkins. Now that we’ve covered the greater points of pumpkins let’s get this party started. It’s always fun to start out with a bang. Unfortunately the first thing on this week’s list includes an assault and stabbing. The long awaited “Grand Theft Auto V” has arrived and it’s been mayhem ever since. Many shops opened at midnight to sell the new GTAV to anxious customers. One customer in London was unfortunately stabbed and robbed of his copy shortly after he purchased it. After the gamer left the store he was hit with a brick, stabbed and robbed of his game by three teenagers. All three of the teens were arrested, but no word if the victim got his game back. Let’s keep this straight kiddos, Grand Theft Auto is a video game, it’s not real life. Read more...

bats1So, okay. I’ve probably been TOO quiet on the fact that at San Diego Comic Con, Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder went and dropped the bomb on all of us that Superman will be encountering Batman in a future movie. Finally we will get to see The Caped Crusader and The Man of Steel on screen together on film. Geeks everywhere are collectively trying to contain our excitement. We’ve all waited our lives for this movie. Alas, with Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise seemingly over and done, Christian Bale will most likely probably not be the Batman we will see in this particular adventure. So, of course, speculators are now doing what they do best...speculating. Read more...
