I don’t know what kind of being James Gunn is at this point. He seems like a director of geekcentric film that was built from the ground up for the benefit of mankind. He just seems to get it. He knows that in these times we need films that are fun from beginning to end and will absolutely take us away from our complicated lives for a couple of hours. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, like its predecessor, does that spectacularly. Read more...

As you probably know (if you are a regular reader of Full Page Bleed, you are HARDCORE with this stuff), the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 movie is JUST about ready to hit theaters all over the world, and the world (scratch that)...the UNIVERSE is ready. Or is it? There’s a whole lot of new characters and developments about to be unleashed on us in this movie, so we need to be properly prepared for the onslaught. Every so often I do some rigorous research and put together a little must-read guide...just to get everyone caught up to speed and fully aware of what is in store in the latest big superhero blockbuster or TV show. Every year since 2011 I have been predicting the outcomes of the Oscars after the nominees are announced. Sometimes you win (in 2011 I was 4-1 and last year I was 1 -4) and sometimes you lose when you play the prediction game but this year I am feeling my oats and believe it to be one of the best years I will have to date. Maybe even a perfect 5-0. I am your precognitive prognosticator - Nostra-DAMM-us - and this is officially a habit now. Read more...

Brian PulidoIt's not often I get to speak to a comic book legend and someone who has made his/her mark on the comics industry and changed things, but at Montreal ComicCon...well, anything can happen! And I got my chance to meet and interview one of the most innovative comic book writers in recent memory. Brian Pulido is a bit different than most comic book creators. Instead of making his name by writing comics about other people's characters, which was most common in 90's, Pulido created his own comics universe from scratch, came up with his own menagerie of wild characters like Lady Death, Evil Ernie and Purgatori, and tapped into the combined horror and heavy metal market like nobody else in comics history. Chaos! Comics in its 9 year run as a publisher, took sexyness, gore and violence to the next level and began a whole new era of edgy, indie comic books in a "Comics Code Authority" oriented industry, and helped usher in a new age of comics for grownups. And adult readers ate it up! Read more...

EX3-PosterThe boys are back, and the firepower has just about run out. Yeah, The Expendables movies have been fun, but after seeing the third installment of the all-star mega-action franchise, I'd have to say Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and the gang really should hang up their semi-auto machine guns, throwing knives, and black kevlar for good. It’s best to end a good movie franchise while it’s still watchable, and Expendables 3 is just barely making the cut. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fun time at the movies, but we have a whole new wave of action stars on the horizon and they seem to be handling things quite well. We now have Dwayne Johnson, Chris Hemsworth, Jason Mamoa and we can safely now add Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista to that list. Those guys are ready to take over as the action stars for the next few decades or so. Read more...

JD 4Can’t Get You Outta My DREDD! If you know me at all, you’ll appreciate that I’m a HUGE 2000AD fan. It’s something I’ve grown up with. In fact, I owe my love of comics to the publisher. The first comic I ever read was the 2000AD/DC Comics crossover, Judgement on Gotham. Written by Alan Grant and John Wagner with art by Simon Bisley, the book saw Batman jump dimensions to face the Scarecrow and Judge Death but most exciting was his partner for this grand adventure… No it wasn’t Robin – it was Judge Joseph Dredd!
