Well, it’s Valentine’s Day (or Valentine’s week or month for some...why have bounderies?), the time when lovers love and secret admirers let their feelings be known! And single people? Well, I guess they all deal with this day differently! The most important thing, whether you believe in celebrating V-Day or not, is that you appreciate your special someone all year around! And for those of us bleeding hearts that bleed comics as well, we get our #relationshipgoals from our heroes and their perfect/not-so perfect relationships! So, I figured what better way to toot St. Valentine’s horn by firing up the ‘ol Listmaster 5000 machine and do one of my old fashioned lists! This time it’s comics’ Top 10 Power Couples! Some are superheroes with non-superheroes, and some of them are both supers...but all of these sweethearts showed us that their true powers are their love for each other (awwww)! Read more...

In the Fall 2015, the DC Universe super-heroine Kara Zor-El, the most popular DC character to go by the moniker of Supergirl, was granted her chance to shine as a solo protagonist on the small screen as Supergirl premiered, and although it is only in its first season, it manages to be a huge Nielsen rating victor and many sci-fi fans in the west (even those who are not regular basis comic book readers) seem to can't get enough of the super-heroine herself. In case you never heard of Kara Zor-El, the description of her life story is simply: she is a natural blonde beauty from planet Krypton who possesses the same powers and strength as her cousin Kal-El (also known as "Clark Kent" and "Superman") and seeks to find her place on Earth. I just this week finished the final chapter of Marvel’s Secret Wars event, which ended an era for the Marvel Universe and opened a new one, an ALL-NEW ALL DIFFERENT one. I’m a lifelong Marvel Comics reader...and no matter what they do to their characters and stories, I’m going to remain that way. After all is said and done, I’m a lifer. And boy, are things different than just 10 years ago. Some good changes, some bad ones...but evolution has always been a key element to Marvel and its characters.  Change isn’t a bad thing. But now, in the Marvel Movie Era, the movies now impact those changes. Read more...

Well, the new TV season is on the horizon, and we are all clamoring for new episodes of our favorite comic book adapted shows like Gotham, Arrow, The Flash and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., we even have some new shows joining the mix like Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow! But will this trend of “Cape TV” continue, or will the fickle masses start to get tired of superheroes running prime time? What can we do to spice things up? Well, the one TV trend that seems to still get millions of viewers seems to be REALITY TV! Hmmmmmm, this got me thinking. Read more...

In 2005, 20th Century Fox took a stab at making a live-action film based on the first family of Marvel Comics, the Fantastic Four, while the movie made money and Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis had great performances, it wasn’t the film that fans had hoped for. Two years later, a sequel was made and not even the presence of the Silver Surfer could have saved that film. Years later a reboot of the popular foursome was announced with Josh Trank, director of the unexpected hit Chronicle, in the director’s chair and a cast full of young and capable actors. Needless to say, fans were intrigued and excited. Would the third time be the charm for this franchise? To be honest, HELL NO. This movie is boring, poorly paced, overly dark for no reason, and contains a climax that’s out of place and just plain puzzling. Read more...

I have been reading the final issues of comics taking place in Marvels 616 Universe. As most of my readers probably know by now, Marvel Comics is following suit from what DC did a few years ago and rebooting their universe after the big blockbuster Secret Wars (technically it’s Secret Wars 4, if you count Bendis’ “Secret War”), and most of the long run and over 70 years of continuity will be (probably) flushed away. I’ve been pretty vocal on how I don’t think reboots are actually the way to do things, in fact, I wrote an entire column on how this was a bad idea. But anyhoo, none of that matters anymore. It’s happening, and the continuity of the comic book company I’ve stood by and loved my entire life is basically going kaput. As I was reading the final issue of Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers run, I was pretty bummed out on how things were ended: Iron Man and Captain America basically fighting like infantile school kids while their world gets decimated. THIS is how you end 7 decades of heroism and teamwork between two amazing and celebrated heroes? By having them act like....well...selfish douchebags? Read more...
