We are living in an interesting time for movies. It is the age of superheroes, remakes, revivals, apocalyptic teenage romance and cute computer animated yellow jellybean looking whatchamacallits...and we look to the freshness of tomatoes to decide if we like them or not. But once in a while something comes along that feels kinda like home. For me that was what Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story felt like. After a tumultuous year in a world with an uncertain future, this movie preaches hope and strength and will give you a warm sigh of relief. I have a confession to make -- I did not see Star Wars until the film's re-issue in 1983! Yeah, I know, I know. But, I rarely went to see ANY movies as a child. And, with the exception of Superman: The Movie, most of the movies we went to see were movies my parents or their friends wanted to see. I never missed going out to movies, as I was so surrounded by toys, TV shows, books and comic books that I was occupied most of the time. So, it was not until my friend Cully's 14th birthday in 1983 that I actually saw the film. Read more...

As Episode VII: The Force Awakens prepares to open to the masses people all over are streaming, digging out old DVDs and laser discs to reminisce or refresh the Midi-chlorian levels in their blood by re-watching all of their favorite characters (even Jar Jar) in preparation. A long time ago in a galaxy far far away Star Wars was born. It was 38 years ago and it kind of feels like we’re in a different galaxy now. Back then people didn’t know what to expect from a movie called Star Wars. Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope was released on May 25, 1977. The original trailer was very underwhelming for what the movie turned out to be. Read more...
