I don’t know what kind of being James Gunn is at this point. He seems like a director of geekcentric film that was built from the ground up for the benefit of mankind. He just seems to get it. He knows that in these times we need films that are fun from beginning to end and will absolutely take us away from our complicated lives for a couple of hours. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, like its predecessor, does that spectacularly. Read more...

Here we are again! It's another year and another Montreal Comiccon! The one weekend of the year where I, your Bleeder King, join my fellow fanboys, geek girls and genre aficionados in my hometown gather together and revel in what makes us awesome! This year is my 5th annual time at the event, so it's quite special! As always I will bring you some of the coolest interviews (I MEAN COOL....I'M NOT KIDDING!) and experiences in the coming weeks! But first, as always, I bring my collection of the finest cosplays I ran into at the con. Everything from comics, to video games to movies were represented and this year I must say, Montreal upped its game with cosplays that were just unbelievable!! Read more...

Netflix_MarvelWe've all seen that amazing Daredevil teaser that Marvel released for their upcoming Netflix series starring the an Without Fear, and we can expect to see one for A.K.A. Jessica Jones really soon too! I think what got everyone excited was the more serious and darker tone than what we're used to from Marvel. While I'm sure we will get a few humorous moments, it seems Marvel is definitely using the Netflix format to bring its audience much more adult material. So this got me thinking, what other heroes could Marvel bring to Netflix once it's Defenders team has been established? Netflix Phase 2, if you will? It sounds like a perfect topic for one of the Bodacious Bleeder's lists! Read more...

Congratulations you’ve made it through another week. There are only 19 days left in this year and luckily we have no Mayan predictions for the end of days. So sit back, relax, enjoy the what’s hot and what’s not list for this week and thank your lucky stars you aren’t banned from playing BINGO. bingoThat’s right, a 70-year-old woman was banned from a BINGO hall and is asking for help from New Mexico’s attorney general to get back in the game of floating balls, daubers and doo dads. How is it possible to get banned from such a mellow past time of gambling? Did she shout BINGO too loudly? Did she daub her dauber too heavily? Were her lucky troll dolls too offensive? No, the other players complained that she drives too recklessly in the parking lot. For that reason she called the attorney general to get her permission to go play Bingo again. Meanwhile San Francisco is flooded, people are still protesting in Ferguson, MO, more horrifying stories about Bill Cosby are coming out and magic mushrooms are growing in the gardens at Buckingham Palace. But none of that matters unless Evangeline gets to play Bingo again. For the love of fill your card.   Read more...

sochidogsWhat an extraordinarily amazing, insane and whacky week it has been.  Mother Nature forgot to take her Prozac, Olympians are saying, screw getting gold medals we’re taking home puppies and Shia LaBeouf didn’t do anything this week because he’s still not famous anymore. Hooray! chevronIf you were victim of the near fracking explosion in Pennsylvania hopefully you were unharmed and we all want to know what toppings you ordered on your pizza. Chevron has been hydraulic fracturing, better known as fracking, and recently one of their wells exploded causing a fire that burned for four days.  Chevron took it upon themselves to remedy the situation by offering free pizza to the town’s residents. Oh, darn there was no choice of toppings, the free pizza and soda was only good for the special combo pizza from Bobtown Pizza. Well at least it wasn’t from Pizza Hut. Read more...

Geektastic Cinema We all collectively drool over it: the Mecca of geekdom, the annual gathering of all things pop culture, the road trip you’ve been planning for years: San Diego’s Comic-Con. eXPress News And Reviews has covered conventions before (in fact DAMM and MiXX will both be at SDCC this year if all falls as planned), but what about cinematic representations of conventions? Allow me to walk you through this. Comedy documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, of Super Size Me (2004) and Where in the World Is Osama Bin Laden? (2008) fame, mainly, has been quite busy lately. Covering pop culture subjects ranging from product placement and The Simpsons (in the 20th anniversary television documentary special The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special – In 3-D! On Ice) to man grooming (in the upcoming Mansome, starring Will Arnett and Jason Bateman). Spurlock has made a name for himself as the “fun” and accessible documentary filmmaker. Indeed, last year’s annoyingly titledComic-con: Episode IV – A Fan’s Hope is not the fourth of a series, but rather Spurlock’s look at the phenomenon of the San Diego Comic Con, which he tackles with his signature blend of documentary and comedy.
