I drove an hour to go see the latest chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the lights dimmed at the historic ISIS Theater in Aspen, I had no idea how thrilling and fun it would be. When it was revealed that Ant Man would be the next film after Avengers: Age of Ultron the reactions ranged from intrigue to flat out disbelief and many non-comic reading fans even scoffed at the idea due to its absurdity. Yet from the first trailer the sentiments changed to excitement and so I decided to review it here for you without ruining it with a bunch of spoilers. Read more...

While we are loving Daredevil on Netflix and salivating in anticipation for Avengers: Age of Ultron, let's not forget about the other 2015 Marvel project, Ant Man! It ain't the largest superhero movie of the year, but it could still pack a punch!  Read more...

tumblr_nfiiogTDjB1rl14rno1_1280It’s been said before that Marvel Studios gamble on Guardians of the Galaxy was possibly one of the most incredible strokes of genius in the history of the superhero movie genre. While Blade was also a bizarre choice as an opener to Marvel’s cinematic history, it also proved that 1) not all superhero movies need A-list stars and 2) not all superheroes wear capes. Switch to what is not classed as the ‘beginning’ of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Iron Man. This origin story propelled the Avengers in to the public consciousness and the anticipation for their combined appearance far exceeded anything that the X-Men had been able to deliver previously. As Marvel sets up the stage for Phase 3 of their master plan, Avengers Age of Ultron is another stepping stone in their dominance over the genre. Read more...

ant-man-1_pg6I have always had a thing for the underdog and the little guy. When it comes to heroes Spider-Man has always been mine, but looking down that Top 10 heroes list it doesn't take long to find heroes of a smaller stature. In fact when I was a kid my favorite episodes of Super Friends were always the ones that had the Atom in them, and I spent a pretty penny more times than I care to count to buy older issues of the pint sized hero over the years. It wasn't always just the small hero from DC though. My favorite Avengers were of course Ant-Man and the Wasp. Yellow Jacket and the Wasp, not so much Giant Man but still the Wasp. There is just something so cool that a hero can be microscopic and still get the heavy lifting that needs to be done done. This week I got my hands on a new book  to the Marvel U that isn't really new. It had been published in some form, if maybe not with the same title a couple of times in the past.  When Marvel, DC or whoever do this it is always my hope that some of the history of the book will come with this new incarnation, and for the most part this book has that, if not in the generic style of what has come before.   Read more...
