I don’t know what kind of being James Gunn is at this point. He seems like a director of geekcentric film that was built from the ground up for the benefit of mankind. He just seems to get it. He knows that in these times we need films that are fun from beginning to end and will absolutely take us away from our complicated lives for a couple of hours. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, like its predecessor, does that spectacularly. Read more...

Previously on “Agents of HIVE”: This Neo dressing prettyboy ancient Inhuman cultist guy is going WAY TOO FAR! Hive (who is inside the dead body of Grant Ward) has the abilities to infect his fellow Inhumans and making them become his loyal minions. He has done so to the nearest and dearest S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and the main heroine of the show: Daisy “Quake” Johnson! Last week we found out he also voodoo’d James (and they exposed him to Terrigen, giving him the powers of his comic book counterpart, Hellfire), as well as the redhead femme fatale who can duplicate herself (like Jamie Madrox), Alicia. Daisy brought Hive the Kree orb that James gave S.H.I.E.L.D., but Hive immediately knew there was a piece missing. James buried that piece under his trailer, but when Coulson and May arrived, they set a bomb! Coulson was fine though...because he had an ENERGY SHIELD built into his cybernetic hand. It was awesome, and it was a clear nod to Captain America: Civil War. Another silent nod to the movie would come as Glenn Talbot contacted Coulson to tell him that Gideon Malick (who Daisy exploded two weeks back) gave up enough intel for the government to raid all of the straggling Hydra facilities, possibly crippling the terrorist organization for good (but probably not). I get the feeling the new Marvel movie (in theaters NOW, go see it!) will take over from there. Read more...

Last Week on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – It was shocking!! Okay, sort of. Basically, Lincoln Cambell (Spark Plug) was being hunted by the ATCU and Rosalind Price, which forced another meeting between her and Coulson. But when Daisy Johnson and Mack finally come to his aid after he accidently gave his friend a heart attack, the “plans changed”. Coulson eventually agrees to work alongside Price to find Inhumans (so he gets to keep Daisy, and they lay off Lincoln)!! Meanwhile Lance Hunter and Melinda May infiltrated a reforming Hydra by way of underground fight club (no big deal), After Lance beat a supposed “friend” to death, he finally gets recruited...and is promised a meeting with Hydra’s new leader...Grant Ward! A newly returned Gemma Simmons also was having trouble readapting her senses to Earth, but also was secretly trying to figure out a way to get back to the mysterious planet that the alien monolith sent her to! t 4When I heard that the legend Jim Starlin was going to helm a new Thanos Original Graphic Novel (or OGN), I was not sure what to do. I knew that I SHOULD pick it up...I have not missed a Marvel OGN since they began publishing them. And it is a big deal to have Starlin back with Thanos. But this was still totally different than the other OGNs for me. Avengers is a franchise I have now fallen deep in love with over the past decade (I don't care about everyone else's opinion, Bendis' run was absolutely fantastic). Spider-Man's was simply a must read. And why wouldn't I read the X-Men's contribution to the OGN library? But I have never. EVER. Been a "cosmic" Marvel fan. I never read Silver Surfer comics growing up. or Guardians of the Galaxy. or Adam Warlock. I had not read the Infinity Gauntlet until last year. So sitting and reading a book on matter how cool I thought he was in the biggest movie of the year...EVEN written by the man who created the "Mad Titan"...was not something I immediately saw myself doing. But I had decided awhile back that I would review and provide my opinion (no matter how valued it may be) on each one. goes nothing. Sorry if there's spoilers!   Read more...

Stunning GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Poster Art by Paul ShipperYou may have heard about a little movie that just came out called "Guardians of the Galaxy".  I'm pretty sure you may have already seen it.  It has made a TON of money in the first few weeks that it has been out AND with good cause! This movie is AMAZING! It has everything that you would want in a great movie. Fantastic colors, stunning effects, great/compatible cast, and well written plot/script. Let's talk about how many people really thought that a movie with a talking raccoon and giant tree monster wouldn't be a great movie.  I hope that they really enjoyed the movie.  Those were the people that I really wanted to love the movie, besides us fans.  And I would love to state, that even though there wasn't a ton of GotG fans before, since the movie, I know at the local comic shops, sales of the GotG trades and comics have gone up.  Why is that such a bad thing? At least we have gathered more fans which will mean more movies or more awesome things in the future. Read more...

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-International-PosterGiant talking trees! Gun toting racoons! Sexy green women that mean business! Hollywood’s new super-franchise is Guardians of the Galaxy, and judging by the numbers coming in, Marvel and Disney have another blockbuster franchise on their hands. I think everyone is delightfully surprised that this film is doing so well, I mean, let’s face it...we were all sort of skeptical at Marvel doing this one. I mean, the comic always had a cult following, but hardly anyone I know grew up reading GotG, including myself. In fact, I did my best to stay away from cosmic Marvel. I of course, regret that now. Heck, my first literary encounter with Groot was when he applied to be Luke Cage’s babysitter in New Avengers just a few years ago. And that was just a silly gag...never did I think we would see him become a big screen superhero voiced by Vin Diesel. But here we are! The movie turned out to be one of Marvel’s best, and like that first Iron Man film, it has changed the scope of movies. You’ll see what I mean soon enough. Read more...
