I was recently drawn into a thread on Facebook that asked if we thought that the Atom was/is a "B-Lister" character. My EXACT response to this--"I do NOT find the Atom, Hawkman, Hawkwoman, Zatanna, Red Tornado, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Elongated Man, Aquaman or the Martian Manhunter to be ANYTHING but A-Listers!" It is finally over!! The show hole has sucked its last empty TV- free hour from my body and this week we can continue to explore the wonders of episodic superhero television. While I discovered Shannara and a couple of other treasures over the holidays and even had a quick one off of this very show a couple of weeks ago, it is great to get into what I do best around here and that is break stuff. Er, I mean break stuff down. While Gotham is still a little way out and Lucifer approaching at light speed Monday has returned with empowering light in a grand fashion with the tenth episode of Supergirl. Read more...

Supergirl will go on. At least it was announced that we would get a full season one from the new hit show (which has left little doubt in the minds of anyone who actually watches it of its deservedness) and this news of course is perfectly timed with the midseason hiatus which culminated with last night’s episode 8 – Hostile Takeover. In the last six weeks Supergirl has surpassed many expectations while still finding its voice and place in the DCTVU. We have seen in flashback and in implication her past with the Danvers’ family and her blossoming newfound respect for Cat Grant. We have seen her relationship with mom and sister grow despite old habits and wounds while we she develops new riskier relationships with Win and with Jimmy but also with Carter, Henshaw and even Lois Lane’s younger pit bull of a sister. Gold_Key-The_Devils_Isle_of_SpaceRemember the time when I presented the feature where I attempted to compare the Japanese animated television multi-series Pocket Monsters (known outside Japan as “Pokemon”) to the British television multi-series Doctor Who through multiple facts? Well, I had fun doing that, and just recently, I thought of another topic where two unrelated media properties could compare to each other. To begin with, back in 1960, comic book publisher DC Comics introduced a band of super-heroes created by Gardner Fox known as the “Justice League of America” (or simply “JLA” or “Justice League”) in the pages of the comic book series The Brave and the Bold, only for the time to later have its own self-tiled ongoing comic book series, also launched in 1960. Five years later, then-active American film studio Desilu (later fused into Paramount Pictures) launched a legendary space adventure live-action television series called “Star Trek” (nowadays better known as “Star Trek – The Original Series”). Anyway, although both science-fiction properties each maintains an entirely different premise (Justice League of America being a superhero series sometimes set on Earth and the original Star Trek being a non-superhero action/adventure show generally centering around a five-year mission in outer space) and represents a different lore (JLA representing the DC Universe franchise and original Star Trek representing well Star Trek franchise), there are certain tropes that make the original Star Trek series’ protagonal group of characters, the crew of the starship U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, comparable to the Justice League itself. Now, get ready to see the whole picture of how this is possible.   Read more...

D(L)C Comes Out Fighting! Here at eXpertComics we’re all incredibly psyched up for the latest videogame release from NetherRealm in conjunction with DC Comics – Injustice: Gods Among Us.   just 8   Some of our news team are backing Superman and the Regime and there are those of us lurking in the shadows with Batman and the Insurgency. Brought to us by the makers of the incredibly popular Mortal Kombat franchise, Injustice looks set to pit DC’s finest against each other, be they heroes or villains or something in between. The first DLC content is to be announced before the game is released in the form of a downloadable character so we had to speculate – who else would we like see as extra content to download and pit against the forces of the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight?   Read more...
