Wow! What an upgrade from that mess a couple of years ago. Here we have the sequel to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from 2014 from Michael Bay's production company. That movie was hot, hot garbage to me. THIS movie was a much better improvement. Read more...

No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn?! It looks like Leo, Donnie, Mikey and Raph will have no sleep 'til June! Because that's when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows hits theaters!  We've got a brand new trailer that shows a lot more of the mutant baddies, Bebop & Rocksteady (played by Gary Anthony Williams & WWE's Sheamus respectively), a bit more of Stephen Amell as Casey Jones, and even the Turtles' arch-nemesis, Shredder (it looks like we have a newer, younger Shredder in Brian Tee)! “Run and tell your leaders this is their last warning. Either obey Master Shredder… Or face all-out war.” - Leonardo When IDW Publishing re-launched the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line, I knew I had nothing to worry about. They have successfully handled licensed franchises such as Transformers and Ghostbusters and launched them as high-end titles which have been able to hold their own against the plethora of superhero books on shelves. The origins of the major characters have been tweaked, modernizing them but keep enough of their original roots to make them instantly identifiable. The most important aspect, and one which is integral to the success of any iteration of the TMNT line, is keeping the emphasis on family; notably the relationship between Master Splinter (as sensei and father) and his four sons; Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello. TMNT3The past coming back to haunt us is a theme that runs throughout most of literature, particularly in my favourite genre, science fiction. Way back with the very first science fiction novel, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (The Modern Prometheus), Dr. Victor Frankenstein found out that playing God had fearful consequences when the Monster he had created wrecked havoc once it had been unleashed. Marvel has taken this theme in their latest event, Original Sin. When the Watcher is brutally murdered, his eyes were taken. Uatu has the ability to see everything and is forbidden to interfere with the fates and destinies of the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe. Read more...

Radical, right? TMNT-2014-Logo After being treated to the character posters from the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, a trailer dropped. Some people were awed. Some people were horrified. My daughter and I? “COWABUNGA!” was the word of the hour and, if I’m honest with you, we watched it for the 13th time this morning before she left for school... The movie, slated for an August release, looks set to do for the Turtles what the Transformers did for the nostalgic franchise. It comes from Paramount and Nickelodeon Studios and is directed by Jonathan Liebesman, who brought us Wrath of the Titans and Battle Los Angeles. The movie produced by Michael Bay and, judging by this latest trailer, showcases ‘Bayhem” at its finest with explosion after explosion after explosion. Read more...

turtlesT.U.R.T.L.E. Power It’s Back to School Week at eXpertComics and there’s one particular favourite memory I have from the Good Ol’ Days (yeah, they’re pretty far back now!) – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! I’ve mentioned them in many a column previously – as well as a love for all things Eighties & Animated – and one of the things that stands out was rushing to LaserQuest on a Saturday morning to hammer the joystick on the TMNT Arcade Game that was released in 1989. This was one of my first experiences of co-operative play (I say co-operative; it was once everyone had realised that because I was the first there, I got to play as Raphael!) and the game, as a whole, was pretty damn perfect. With a rebooted Turtles cartoon for 2013, it was only a matter of time before the issue of a video game was addressed once again... Read more...

FM 6The Kids Are ALWAYS Alright OK, so we’ve dealt with the grown up and talked about how parents are as essential in shaping the view point of our superheroes as they are at guiding us in real life. But some immediate families have more than just mom, dad and one kid, right? This week it’s the turn of the siblings; brothers and sisters. These are often the family members whose relationship with us can be most erratic. There’s plenty of up’s an down’s. We can be the best of friends and then the worst of enemies faster than Barry Allen can cross the Equator. Read more...
