Nearly 20 years ago, there was the release of a television movie called "Doctor Who: The Movie" (also known "Doctor Who: The Enemy Within"), which marked the first appearance of The Doctor's 8th incarnation from within the official Doctor Who continuity. But did you know that the movie itself was meant to be a pilot for a planned American Doctor Who television series that never got launched because the movie suffered from poor Nielsen ratings in the U.S.? I'm sure some of you Whovians do know. Read more...

The Terminator franchise is highly beloved, yet deeply frustrating for most fans. For every great outing, the first two films and The Chronicles of Sarah Connor television show, we get a frustratingly disappointing outing, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator: Salvation. After Salvation, the franchise was in a standstill with the rights up in the air and eventually being bought up or else they would revert back to series creator James Cameron. The end result was Terminator: Genisys, a fun, frustrating, and disappointing film that retreads old ground a bit while blazing a new path. Read more...

“It’s still him, it’s still the Doctor.” – Madame Vastra   DW1   Without a bang or a whimper but rather a huge glob of dinosaur sputum, Doctor Who returned to screens both large on small on Saturday evening as Peter Capaldi took the console controls to begin another rip-roaring season of adventures through time and space. But was it everything we expected it to be?   Read more...

“I’ve been running all my lives, through time and space” It’s weird to think that a show once considered to be at the height of ‘geekiness’ has now become synonymous with British Culture. Doctor Who is as important a part of our cultural heritage as the Royal Family is and rightly so being one of the longest running genre show’s ever on TV. November 23 rd 2013 marked the 50th anniversary of the show that made the nation hide behind the sofa and the world chant “Exterminate!” the-day-of-the-doctor-600x360 In honour of such an achievement, the BBC celebrated by giving us The Day of the Doctor – a 50th anniversary spectacular that was set to blow the minds and capture the imaginations of Whovians, children and the passing viewer alike. There have been few television events that have brought the country – if not the world with the episode debuting simultaneously around the globe – together in such a fashion. For the first time ever, a genre show was propelled into the public consciousness in the same fashion as the Royal Wedding or the World Cup.   Read more...

Twelfth Night On Sunday night, it was announced... The actor playing the Twelfth Doctor is to be...Peter Capaldi! Who 6 The live BBC show was a bit of a mixed bag to be honest. It was great seeing Peter Davison and Bernard Cribbins talk about their time on the show but the overall set- up was pretty lacklustre and Rufus Hound’s multiple fumbles were embarrassing to say the least. Regardless, the nation waited with baited breath for the announcement and many were impressed and satisfied with the news. Read more...

the-new-doctor-who-is-nothing-to-nerdrage-about_hAs a fellow Scot and Glaswegian, I should be delighted that Peter  Capaldi has been appointed as the next Doctor. For a long time, Scotland  had only a handful of national heroes who, more often than not, were  limited to footballers (soccer players) or the occasional actor. For  many years, the only films which Scotland was associated with was Local  Hero and Gregory's Girl. In recent years, Scotland has gradually wormed  its way into the spotlight. Braveheart was an international blockbuster  while Ewan McGregor and an assortment of other actors and actresses,  including the 10th Doctor, David Tennant, became international household  names.
