Another Challenge For The Green Hornet! I always loved hearing the announcer intone those words in as dramatic a way as possible. There was a sense of URGENCY behind those words! It always got you excited for what was coming up next! The Green Hornet character was created in 1936 by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker Radio Director James Jewell also provided input into the new character. Therefore, this year we celebrate TWO anniversaries for he Green Hornet! 2016 marks both the 80th anniversary of the creation of the character, but also the 50th anniversary of the famous 1966 green Hornet TV Series starring Van Williams as The Green Hornet, and Bruce Lee as the Green Hornet's aide-de-camp Kato! movie theaterUp until recently, it was generally a good time for us financially:   house prices soared, many were safe in their jobs and wages grew over  the years. However, much like an 80's slapstick comedy, the money that  once fueled our lives, our lifestyles and our hopes and dreams faded. Six years ago the economic climate shifted, causing a turbulent era for  many. It's a topic that is impossible to escape as it consumes our  lives: around the dinner table we debate the complications that have  arisen, we struggle to sleep because of it and many of us are, perhaps  for the first time, unable to plan for the future.   Read more...

My Kingdom For A Remote In today's age there is a "faster", "easier" way to do everything. If you want to make popcorn, no more standing over the stove shaking the skillet back and forth hoping every kernel of corn pops. Now you just stick it in the microwave (doesn't that name scare you a little?) hit the button for popcorn, make sure "This Side Up" and three minutes or so later viola hot tasty corn with no muss or fuss. You don't even need to light your grill to barbeque anymore. There was a day when you were going to grill out you had to have charcoal briquets, lighter fluid and a match. Then the time came when you turned on the gas and pushed the starter button. Now click it on and let the infra red take over (again scared by that). When I was growing up to turn the TV station from one to another you had to get off your duff, walk to the set and turn a knob. People use to pay attention to the TV Guide or the TV installment in the paper  so you knew what channel your show was on so you didn't need to make many trips. No one channel turned then, and there were many a nights when the TV would stay on one channel to avoid the need for the trips. Now you can sit back and surf the TV channels, with a channel line up provided all on one screen.   Read more...
