It’s that time of year when literally everything stops. No, it’s not a religious festival or a bank holiday – it’s the premiere of a new season of Game of Thrones. From the off, as the credits began and we began to look out for a host of new regions dotted about the clockwork map of Westeros, it was easy to feel that the status quo has truly shifted when the sigil atop Winterfell has switched from House Stark to House Bolton.
Following a prophetic flashback to Cersei as a child being delivered some chilling revelations by a witch when she was a child, Kings Landing stands silent, mourning the death of Tywin Lannister. Regardless of how you felt about Tywin, one thing could be said of the man; he had things under control. Despite the machinations of a crazed boy-king, there was never any doubt that Tywin could rein Joffrey in and he was certainly the man to mould Tommen into a competent monarch. However, with the patriarch of the Lannister household murdered by his son, Kings Landing and, most importantly, the House of Lions stands vulnerable.
