Look out! Here comes the Spider-Man! Let’s be honest, Spidey has not had the easiest time being adapted to the big screen. While the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire trilogy and even the Marc Webb/Andrew Garfield films have their fans, they had their share of critics too. Read more...

Two weeks ago we caught up with the series the Shannara Chronicles and discovered together the great world of Terry Brooks for TV that is brought to us from Iron Man director Jon Favreau. A new episode has aired and as such it is time to explore it, its themes and its place in relation to other pop culture staples and adaptations – successful or not. Read more...

I was late to the party on The Shannara Chronicles on MTV, I admit, but to be fair it was only because I had no idea that some of my favorite books were being adapted in such a way. I was first introduced to Terry Brooks and his era defining Shannara books in the 80’s when a friend handed me a copy of Sword of Shannara, because I had been reading a lot of fantasy in those days from The Amber Series to Dragonlance. What I remember most was how accessible and fun Brooks had made his elves in contrast to the Simarillion lineages and the Dragonlance alliances and squabbles. Read more...

Captain FutureWe here at ENR strive to bring you the best and brightest fan films every Friday, and this week we have a special treat! Director Dave Guivant produced a pilot for an Invincible Iron Man TV show way back in 2008 4 months before Jon Favreau's hit Iron Man film, and got some attention for putting together something fans had been clamoring to see for decades. Now Guivant is doing it again by putting together a fan series  pilot based on Edmond Hamilton's pulp sci-fi hero Captain Future. Guivant explains that the project will also be strongly inspired by the 70's Japanese Anime which also adapted the classic novels. Read more...

destiny-bungie-3The first big game that will usher in the Next Gen of video games is Destiny, developed by Bungie (the original developers of the Halo franchise) an Activision. Destiny will blend RPG and First-Person Shooter genres like never before and in a revolutionary twist, the Destiny in-game universe will always be "alive"! Meaning the game will change and your character will be existing even when you are not playing it. When you just can't handle not knowing what's going on with your character, you will be able to check in on your game via mobile device apps. Giving us yet another reason to check our phones, right? I've never heard of anything like this before...can you imagine when we were kids if Link or Mario (or...Crash Bandicoot or whatever for the younger readers) were still saving princesses and storming castles even when we were not playing? We never would have imagined it being possible! Welcome to the future, I guess. Read more...

Helmet“I am Iron Man.” This was truthfully stated by Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark in 2008’s Iron Man and it couldn’t have been truer. In 2013’s Iron Man 3 the same could be said as this is a rare threequel that actually surpasses its predecessor and manages to live up to the standard set by the spectacular original. With a great focus on character over spectacle, a script co-written by former screenwriting wunderkind Shane Black, and a great supporting cast, this movie is a great start to the Phase 2 Marvel Cinematic Universe.   Read more...

Daredevil_18_CoverIf you know anything about me, you’d know that I was a fan of Wizard Magazine, if not that it was an actual magazine stuffed with fun articles about comics and comics related topics. It was a genuine magazine publication devoted to the stuff I loved. Wizard had letters page, top 10 lists, interviews, previews of upcoming comics and of course this cool column that I always looked forward to: Casting Call, where they would cast actors into completely fabricated comic book adapted movies. This was when comic book movies were just beginning to emerge in abundance, so this was pretty imaginative and we never really thought that any of the movies would be made...but here we are with 2 or 3 major comic book films coming out every summer! So you can imagine how happy I am to be a full-fledged comic book columnist and sort of get the chance to keep what Wizard started right here in The Bleed every week! So, the big Marvel Studios news from Marvel’s Big Shot Mega-Producer Kevin Feige this week was that the rights that 20th Century Fox had to produce Daredevil movies have expired and the rights go back to Marvel, to do with as they please.
