So here we are,  the second part of my year-end spectacular column which gives out phony, non-existent awards to comics and comic related stuff that I myself, as a lifelong lover of such things, deems worthy. It’s The Bleedie Awards! Read more...

When it comes to haunting, dark artwork that almost looks like it should be hung up in a museum somewhere, the comics industry turns to Mr. Jae Lee. A 20+ year vetran in the industry, Jae has worked on it all from Wolverine to WildC.A.T.S to Stephen King's Dark Tower to his monumental run on the New 52 reboot of Batman/Superman. Jae has become one of the comic industry's top talents and most enthrallic and unique artists in a long time! I had the chance to catch up with Jae at Montreal ComicCon and have a talk about his start, his run on Batman/Superman and more! I could have talked with Jae forever, but it was the last 5-10 minutes of the con day and he was about to pack up! But he was so awesome he granted me this interview anyway!  Check it out! Read more...

d 1I am known for my opinions on superhero ideals. I am especially known (as of late) for my nearly ruthless criticism of both the New 52 Superman and the desecration of Superman in Man of Steel. But while I have very specific guidelines for who I think (throughout history and throughout the ascension to Americana) Superman is, I am not intransigent. I am always willing to give credit where due and I am the first to praise a job well done. While traveling the country for 45 days, interviewing literally hundreds of regular fans, creators and retailers as I rode the rails in 22 states I believe I have discovered the new American superhero ideal. I am aware of many new things and have grown exponentially for taking the trip. I have outlined the book and am eager to write it. Superman was pivotal to the heart of the trip. It was Man of Steel that set me off, it was the portrayal of Superman in the current flagship titles that made me wonder where the goodness was, where had the traditional Silver and Bronze Age ideals gone? What had they been replaced with? It was my own personal loss of what I believed Superman to be that kept me going when the tracks ahead looked endless and I didn’t care if I ever saw another S Crest. So when I found these there was of course hope for what I had missed.   Read more...

mega 3A sign of things to come? The sequel to Man of Steel was one of the biggest announcements that emerged from San Diego Comic Con this year. So big that it even made the national news in many places – hardly surprising as it seems the two biggest properties in comic books look like they are finally destined to share the silver screen with each other. At first, I speculated that this might be a World’s Finest-esque collaboration but - as rumours leak and fans jump on the whispers coming from the studio – it seems this movie may focus on a different aspect to the pair’s relationship and one that was hinted at during the press release. This could be Batman Vs Superman. It puts a whole new spin on things. We know the two heroes have had their difference but they rely on each other for many things – trust and friendship being the largest aspect of this.   Read more...

Dclogo2012The first time DC Comics brought out the two heavy hitters for one book it ran for 87 issues. This time we will need to wait and see. This week Batman/ Superman #1 will be on shelves once again, and from all accounts it looks like this will be a big seller. With more variant covers than you can shake a stick at, and some of the biggest names at the DC offices doing them we can't see why they won't. We will say this though, the art looks fantastic! Check out the the release and pictures below! Read more...
