When Marvel does a mid-season filler, it goes big! Instead of watching reruns while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is on hiatus, ABC last year had a much more stellar idea...and we got the return of one of the MCU’s most beloved heroines, Peggy Carter. Agent Carter the TV series had an extraordinary season last year, as it took place where Captain America: the First Avenger had left off and Peggy was struggling as the known love interest of WWII’s greatest hero and being a tough and independent woman in the S.S.R. (Strategic Scientific Reserve), the precursor to S.H.I.E.L.D. , in the late 1940’s. In that male dominated world, Peggy, along with hr old ally Howard Stark and his faithful butler Edwin Jarvis. There are two truths about holidays that are now indisputable. First, not everyone gets the luxury of friends and family at this time – so make sure to reach out – and the second is that more than ever before people are spending the holidays glued to Netflix, On Demand or their favorite home entertainment venue like never before. So whether you are working, flying solo or getting together with family and friends it is a safe bet that you will be looking for, discussing or fighting over what to watch haha. Read more...

Previously on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – Lash is taken down!! That’s right, the big reveal was that the big dude (that kinda looks like Blanka from Street Fighter only because Joe Madueira designed him) that has been murdering Inhumans is in fact S.H.I.E.L.D. ally and Agent May’s ex husband Dr. Andrew Garner, and the agents had to take down and capture one of their own.  Then they handed him off to their allies in tracking Lash down, Rosalind Price and the ATCU. BUT!!! Former World Council member Gideon Malick (played by veteran actor Powers Boothe) returned and he’s totally Hydra! The Hydra-est of all Hydra! It seems there was a power struggle between Malick and Grant Ward as to who would be leading the remnants of the terrorist group, but they seem to be now on the same page as Malick contacts the person working for him who is getting VERY close to Phil Coulson...PRICE!!! It’s September! You know what that means! It’s another action-packed season of everyone’s favorite superhero spy TV show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.! Last season things got more intriguing for the show than ever as Marvel’s first Cinematic Universe tied television project had the privilege of introducing the Inhuman race into the MCU, as we discovered that Skye (Chloe Bennett) was actually Daisy “Quake” Johnson, daughter of the villainous Mr. Hyde (played by veteran actor Kyle McLachlan). Daisy/Skye struggled for almost the whole season to deal with her newly discovered lineage as well as her extremely destructive powers. No, we did not get to encounter any of the Attilan royal family....but all in good time, right? After all, there is a movie slated for 2019 starring them. We have time. Read more...

So, I’m a fan of hip hop music. I grew up listening to Biggie, Tupac and the Wu-Tang Clan. And everyone in between. I don’t often get a chance to write about that love on a geek/pop culture website...but sometimes I’m able to sneak it in there. One of the coolest songs Notorious B.I.G. ever wrote was the “Ten Crack Commandments”, where Big basically...well...lists his simple rules for being a drug dealer. Not saying it’s the right thing to write a song about...but whatever. It is what it is. And what it is is one of the best written hip hop songs of all time, in my opinion. Read more...

As far as Canadian superheroes go, We all know of Captain Canuck, Marvel’s Alpha Flight and Wolverine and of course, The Heroes of the North (a production which I myself am a part of), but not many people know of the original Canadian comic book superheroes of the Golden Age. Rachel Richey is a Canadian comic book archivist and historian and has made it her mission with her Comic Syrup Press publishing label to bring awareness to Canada’s comic book history and put these great characters back into the spotlight. At Montreal ComicCon I had the chance to sit with Rachel and chat about herself and her projects! Enjoy! Read more...

Welcome back to the what's hot and what's not list for this week of May 2105. It was a week filled with tragedy and loss. Nepal suffered another earthquake, a devastating train crash took several lives and injured many and we lost blues legend B.B King. It's sad with all of this loss and people are still talking about Tom Brady's balls. This week we were given the announcement that American Idol will only have one more season. Is that show still on? Apparently they just named season 14's winner and announced that season 15 will be their last. It's sad really, now where are mildly talented singers going to go to showcase their vocal chords? rocketeer2In this day of block buster Super Movie at our fingertips, coming out about every 3 months, it is hard to believe it hasn't always been this way. The horrible, awful fact is it hasn't. There was a time not more than a couple of decades (think 90's) when getting to watch ANY super hero movie was a treat. We didn't care if it was on TV or at the movies, we got to see our heroes on a screen. There wasn't the tech that we have today back then, and there wasn't the care for the presentation that there is now. Obviously Superman was a perfect vehicle that had both to make one of, if not the greatest Super hero movie of all time. Superman was the exception, and everything else was either suspect or down right pitiful. That is kind of my focus this week. Most of the Old School products weren't good. BUT many weren't as bad as we think they are. Howard the Duck, yea that was just bad! Dolph Lundgren's Punisher..Yea really bad, but the movies on this list? Yea some of it was still bad, but you know what? They weren't that bad. Let's get started.   Read more...
