I’ve been wanting to do this column for weeks now, and in that amount of time some interesting developments have happened to the solo Batman movie in development starring Ben Affleck. Affleck first dropped out of being the director of the film allegedly because he didn’t think he could handle starring AND directing...which sounds pretty simple. Then Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves was apparently being courted for the job, then some rumors of Affleck being (ALREADY?) tired of being The Bat sprouted around the internet....and now apparently the Reeves thing has fallen apart. The movie could very well be in limbo at this point. Read more...

Well, I guess by now the cat’s out of the bag! We are definitely getting a sequel to the hottest superhero movie so far of 2016, Deadpool! And not only that, in the end-credits scene Deadpool himself informs us that his cyborg from the future BFF Cable will appear in the sequel! If that didn’t make us all “squee”, nothing will! It’s not every day that I get to interview a talent artist who should be working for one of the big comic book publishers, let alone be friends with one for over a decade. Tim Doyle is an underrated force in the world of comic book and pop culture art and has been running Nakatomi for almost seven years. He’s come a long way since working at Funny Papers, a now defunct comic book store that was located in Dobie Mall on the edge of campus at the University of Texas. I recently caught up with him after a couple of years at the Austin Comic Con in Austin, TX and talked shop and what’s on his current pull list. Read more...

Well. Here we are. Some of us thought this would happen. Some hoped it would. Others really don’t care one way or another. But we choose to ignore those jerks. Fox’s latest Fantastic Four reboot has crashed and burned faster than Johnny Storm in issue #587. Personally, there’s a part of me that really feels sorry for a lot of the actors and crew involved that likely worked their asses off to try to make a cool movie. Nobody thinks of them when making fun of these movies that don’t do well. I also found it a sad state of affairs when “internet buzz” flops a movie before its release. Something about it doesn’t seem fair. When did Rotten Tomatoes start to run our lives and make our opinion for us? Read more...

*Obligatory NSFW Warning Message!!! The following AWESOME interview contains some slight offensive language!! Viewer discretion is advised! Blame the monkeys! - ENR Editing Staff* “I would go to bed each night, thinking about them more and more, and they would not leave my sleep deprived mind... And then... well then they started talking." 10736066_560717054072036_229150679_n Here at eXpert Comics, we always try and look out for new and exciting projects – books that are have their own unique flair and style, things we’ve never seen or read before. Whether it be an Indie title, a comic from one of the Big Two or a new Kickstarter project, anything that interests us and catches our eye, we accept the privilege of showcasing for you. One such project came to my attention over Facebook a few months ago. Shit Flingers – a book about the occult adventures of a troop of soldiers cursed to live out their days in the bodies of apes and monkeys – were asked for contributors for their fantasy anthology. I needed to know more. This book played to all my sensibilities – secret organisations, the magical and mysterious and, of course, talking monkeys! Read more...

telltale-games-copyIf you are a gamer, you probably are aware that Telltale Games is taking over the industry with their downloadable point-and-click style episodic video games. After adapting popular franchises such as Walking Dead, Vertigo Comics' Fables, Back To The Future, Monkey Island, Sam & Max and Borderlands ...Telltale has now begun their spin on George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones. The Telltale engine allows for players to immerse themselves in the role of the leading characters in each story and virtually control how the story evolves through their own decisions. Basically, very few players' games will end up EXACTLY the same by the time all is said and done, making every experience unique based on the person playing the game. And your decisions matter even after you go on to play season 2, as long as you keep your save file, that is! Read more...

“I'm constantly looking at things and it always helps to carry a small sketchbook or notepad. You never know when inspiration will strike.” r 11Let’s be honest, there are some of us out there (myself included) who maybe shouldn’t take up the cos-play circuit. The last time I tried, it resulted in me wearing a shoe box on my head which was decorated in red ribbon and I tried to pass myself off as astronaut from Starfox. Not cool.   At Geek Unleashed there was an array of cos-players and extremely talented artists. I was lucky enough to meet Mike Lawson from What You See Here and what I saw blew my mind! What You See Here creates wonderful, original artwork – all courtesy of Mike – but what makes him unique is the detailed replica’s he also painstakingly puts together.   On display were a variety of helmets from our favorite media including Dredd’s helmet, the Iron Patriot, a Warhammer 40,000 centurion and, my personal favorite, a replica of The Flash’s mask from the upcoming CW show – all of which are meticulously planned, designed and put together by Mike to showcase to those lucky enough to catch his work. But don’t just take my word for it – here’s the man himself!   Read more...

Ottawa-Comiccon-SliderHey Bleeder Nation! Your king is still having a bit of a "con hangover", a result of an awesome weekend at the nation's capital (well, MY nation's capital, at least), Ottawa ComicCon! It was another great experience, hanging out with creators, cosplayers, and fans of comics, video games and pop culture of all ages! Nothing makes me happier than going to a con, and this one was one of the craziest! In fact, the numbers are in. 38,000 comic loving fans attended the event! Congrats to the organizers for putting the con together and making it a success! Oh, did I mention the interviews?! I got interviews! 4 amazing ones, to be exact! So be sure to keep a look out for those! You won't be disappointed! And as always I took pictures. Tons of pictures of the coolest cosplayers I ran into throughout the weekend. Once again Ottawaians (not sure if that's what they call themselves, but let's go with it) came out in full force and got their geek on! Read more...
