SDCC '12 Flashback A DAMM interview The following interview with the white hot artist Tyler Kirkham is one that sadly got lost in the post SDCC flow. However as Titans starts with him as regular penciler (TT #0 was beautiful) and Blue Beetle to be canceled I figured there were some relevant tidbits in here still. I strongly encourage you to check out all of his work. He is among my favorites in the modern era. Simply stunning. So set the Way Back (a few months) machine Sherman, daylight is a burnin'. DCNU and the Crew It is hard to believe that a year has gone by since the inception of the New 52. The period leading up to, and right after the unveiling of the new DCNU was full of venom towards the change and optimism about the change on blogs from one side of the world to the other. A year passed now and as funny as it seems that same sentiment is still going strong. It seems that those opposed to the New 52 still have the same burning hatred towards it and those who were enthusiastic about it still find reasons to support it. The eXPress News & Reviews team is not different. Some of us have found reasons to get on board while others of us still bare our teeth and growl at what we think is blasphemy. This is what we think about the New 52 one year later. DarXide kicks us off. So let's get this monkey smoking. Read more...

It’s pretty rare that you’re hearing from me this week. It’s shark week and shark week is known as the week that everything else stands still in my world. I’m completely obsessed with the shows about sharks. Lucky for me I have learned how to use the magical DVR and I can record the shows while I type. Read more...

The stars of wrestling and how they aren’t so different than your favorite comic book heroes & villains! A little while back in an episode of the Bleed, around Wrestlemania, I confessed my love for Pro Wrestling (or “Sports Entertainment”, if you prefer). I can’t really explain why a 31 year old like myself still sits in front of my television every Monday and Friday night (and one Sunday a month) and tune into this type of’s just something I’ve done most of my life, ever since  I first saw Hulk Hogan point his all-powerful finger at some poor jabroni on WWF Superstars one Saturday morning after my cartoons before laying down a few punches, irish whipping his foe into the ropes, causing him to predictably run into Hogan’s big yellow boot before falling victim to his deadly leg drop of doom. Why stop now?! It was like watching a superhero from one of my comic books come to life and lay waste to evildoers but for real. Almost real. Real enough for a young kid. Things have changed in the past few decades in the world of pro wrasslin’, we went from Hulk Hogan and his bright yellow tights, to the “Attitude Era” where middle fingers, crotch chops, and bra and panties matches reigned supreme (there was even a few ritualistic sacrifices here and biggie), and all the way back again to a PG era with larger than life heroes that battling almost cartoonish bad guys. Monday Night Smackdown! I’m in the middle of reading the classic Neal Adams/Denny O’Neil classic, Superman vs. Muhammad Ali and while it’s not by any means a literary masterpiece, it is plenty of fun and I’m sure made many headlines back in its day. I mean, it was the book that had the world’s greatest champions in both real life and fiction squaring off! I don’t know if comics made such a grasp for mainstream media attention before Superman/Ali, so it must have been a big deal. What strikes me as unique about this mashup of pop culture and sports is the fact that it’s not like Ali is guest starring, he actually boxes against a de-powered Superman! Read more...

Outed When DC and Marvel both recently announced that there was going to big news in their worlds that involved gay superheroes it caused more than just a buzz. Even my mom called me and threw her two cents at me. She doesn’t understand what someone’s sexual preference has to do with being a superhero. Odd that it may be I sort of agree with her.
