Well, fellow comic fans...you have failed everyone. Marvel surely hasn’t. Even Nick Spencer hasn’t. But some fans, who likely have not even physically bought a comic book in a decade, have actually ruined everything. A plot twist is just that...a plot twist. It’s fiction, it’s meant to shock, bring out strong feelings in the audience and make their jaws drop, feel dread and try to make them think “well, I need to see what happens next!” But now we have the internet, where everyone that has two fingers to type with has a faceless voice. And some of those people misuse their voice and use it to be totally moronic. Read more...

"NO MAN ESCAPES THE MANHUNTERS !! THE MANHUNTERS ARE A MYTH!" These two contradictory statements make up the motto of the infamous Manhunters. The Manhunters are a force of robots, created eons ago by the Guardians of the Universe. This was long before they created the Green Lantern Corps. It was due in a large part to the Manhunters' cold unfeeling nature that made the Guardians of the Universe to disown them, and instead use sentient beings. The Manhunters took this as a betrayal by the Guardians! They banded together in secret, and tried from that moment on to undermine the Guardians and their soldiers at all costs. And this is their most devious plan yet !! It begins with a very diverse gathering. Diverse, but many of the faces are familiar ones to us. They come from various characters comics. Each carries a deadly secret. It is a secret that they have shared amongst themselves for, in some cases, YEARS! Read more...

ladies-600x420Happy International Women's Day everyone! I have to say, I love recognizing this important day every year because, well, women are awesome! And the strongest people that I value the most in my life...happen to be women! And that needs to be celebrated, not just on IWD, but EVERY day. So, like last year, I will do one of my lovely lists and this time, truly focus on GIRL POWER. Scary, extinction-level girl power! Today, I will count down the most powerful female heroes in comics. And to narrow it down and not just put up a bunch of cosmic-powered characters from the 90's nobody has ever heard of...I'm focusing on HEROINES ONLY. And let's be honest here, I know that I can't possibly put this list in an order that everyone is going to agree with, so keep the complaints to a minimum and let's celebrate ALL of these awesome, empowering characters! So keep it down, trolls! Especially you, Pip! Read more...

amazingspider-man0052ibfcoBoth of my picks for this week look at heroes who are struggling to find themselves in worlds that have grown against them. While this is pretty standard fare for superhero comics, it’s usually a situation the character finds themselves in during their initial years or their origin period. These stories are defined by the worlds in which our heroes are placed. The general populace learn to love the vigilantes after a period of inauguration in which the central character – be they Caped Crusader or Scarlet Spider – are faced with hatred and fear. And why not? I think it’s generally accepted that it’s quite odd behavior to put on tights (and underwear on the outside!) and then parade around the city beating up criminals. People have a lack of understanding but eventually the hero shines through by averting a huge disaster or rescuing a kitten from a tree.   Read more...

glc_eartWhen Super Heroes get drunk!! It happened in Green Lantern Corps #211: "Pink Elephants!" It is New Years Eve at the Green Lantern Corps Citadel. An irate Guy Gardner is chiding the rest of the Green Lantern's for choosing duty over going out and partying. After he has managed to antagonize all seven of the other Green Lantern's, Guy leaves. But he does not go very far!! Meanwhile, at a Hollywood party, (with Sting...or is it John Constantine?? And Elvira in attendance) Guy's ex-girlfriend, the psychic Kari Limbo, has a sudden premonition about Guy, and races out of the party. Outside the Citadel, Guy asks his ring for a drink --one that will mix with water and come out tasteless-- to get everybody in that Citadel drunk on their butts!! Read more...

gl coverThe Green Lantern Corp.  A majestic group.  A group with honor, integrity, and raw courage. Hal Jordan upheld that tradition admirably and  after the Crisis On Infinite Earths, there were suddenly SEVEN Green Lantern Corp members who chose to reside on Earth for one reason or another. Those seven, Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Katma Tui , Arisa, Ch'p,Salakk, and a new character, who would become prominent in the D Universe, Kilowog . These seven became Earth's Green Lanterns. The Green Lantern comic was even renamed the Green Lantern Corps. with issue # 201 .It was a grand and powerful concept. It was a concept full of drama, romance, (Hal and Arisa, as well as John and Katma) , conflict in the form of reporter Tawny Young, spurned by John Stewart in favor of Katma Tui,  persisted in doing " hatchet jobs" on the new super team. New villains were created(most forgettable) and there was even conflict in the ranks as the rouge Green Lantern , Guy Gardner , followed the team to Earth.... Eventually.  First he had to escape from Maltus , and make his way back to Earth.   Read more...

In April I went to Starland ComicFest in Denver, Colorado and hung out with Tony Bedard for a few minutes. Unfortunately, my equipment wasn't working and we had to set up an email interview because as you the fan knows Green Lantern: The New Guardians is racing up the sales charts and devouring everything in its path. There is good reason. Read more...
