Injustice: Gods Among Us was only just the beginning. NetherRealm, the same video game studio that develops the Mortal Kombat series has yet another blockbuster Fighter franchise on their hands. Injustice delves into an alternate DC Universe where Earth’s greatest hero, Superman, becomes the type of tyrannical villain he was once sworn to oppose after he executes The Joker. The snowball effect of that event creates a world where our heroes and villains are drastically changed and the status quo of the DC Universe is flipped upside down. The first game’s story mode had the heroes of a more familiar Earth come to help Batman’s rebels battle Superman’s regime, but this new installment shows us the aftermath of that story. A new threat emerges as Brainiac (who is responsible for the destruction of Krypton in this reality) attacks Earth’s cities and enlists the world’s vilest menaces to aide him. Read more...

Well, we’re just a few weeks away from probably one of the most anticipated superhero films ever. Finally, after GENERATIONS of comic book fans waiting for it to happen, the two most popular comic book characters in history will finally meet head-to-head in a film. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice will be when it will happen and, as the title entails, our heroes (played by Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck respectively) will first collide, and then inevitably join forces and form the Justice League (SPOILER ALERT). And oh yes, there is a third character in the mix, the Amazonian warrior princess, Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot), not to mention Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) no doubt manipulating the whole confrontation behind the scenes and releasing the destructive Doomsday on the world! Will there be more? You betcha! Most of the future JL members are rumoured to have cameos, including Aquaman (Jason Mamoa) and Vic Stone/Cyborg (Ray Fisher). This movie is jam-packed! Read more...

Remember last week, after two weeks of fast paced world hopping superhero goodness I noted that there was less of a focus on theme and trope and more of cocktail of making new facets of them to be explored at a later time? No? Well check last week’s Flash breakdown. In any case I had no idea (I should have) that the payoff exploration of those facets would come immediately upon the airing of episode 14 King Shark. While we get the promised good guy versus bad guy fight the title promises this episode finishes what the last two began with the intense jamming of so much content into one episode I could barely contain it in one review. If any type of comic book was going to be the subject of Game Changers, it was going to be an event series. One of the first notable ‘events’ in comics was Marvels Secret Wars in which many key players within the publishers stable were transported to Battleworld by the Beyonder and were given free reign to take on one another in a fight to death in order to prove who was the greatest. In terms of sales, Secret Wars was undoubtedly a hit – it offered fans many of their favourites together in one place in a way that they’d never imagined – but critically, it floundered slightly due to massive inconsistencies across the board. However, Secret Wars set the benchmark for what event comics were to become – sprawling story arcs, epic in scale and concept, that would cross-pollinate characters from many different titles and bring them together in the battle against an enemy or situation that would require all their skills in order to survive. The format had been laid out and, with some exceptions, has remained that way until today. Read more...
