Legacy in comics is important. Legacy in all epic fictional sagas is VERY important. Just look at the response of Star Wars: The Force Awakens compared to let’s say...the new Ghostbusters remake so far. Force Awakens was all about continuing the story we all grew up with, at the same time as adding an excellent cast of new and exciting 2nd generation characters that will keep the adventures in a galaxy far, far away going strong. Ghostbusters is a whole new reboot of a story that many feel is a cheap remake of a movie that still to this day holds up for many of us. If they were to make this movie with the all-female cast of new characters that are the daughters or protégées of the original Ghostbusters, well, I bet more fans would enjoy that. Read more...

18 Minutes of moral morass… Whether you like DC Comics’ direction in their books, film or animation they seem to be all in. Which direction is that you ask? Why the continued darkening of their Universe and the transition to blurred lines in what defines a hero. With films like Man of Steel, the New 52 reboot of 2011 (and now Convergence) it seems the more flawed the hero, the better for DC and its parent company Warner Bros. On July 28th the latest installment of the DC Animated Universe will get an ElseWorlds (alternate Universe) treatment and the chance to inject bleak darkness into another version of this Universe was too great to pass up. Even for Bruce Timm. The revered and yet recently departed (creative differences) creator of Batman TAS has returned to the DCAU with this coming film. While TAS might be the greatest cartoon of all time, it is safe to say that despite towing the company line and touting this work, Gods and Monsters is not the traditional fare he respected so highly. But while this is an alternate world (for which I am so grateful) it is an opportunity to rationalize poor decisions, glorify the darkness and up the violence level another notch on the “get the gamer audience” belt. How do I know this when the film isn’t released? Read more...

3rd leadIt has been several months since I read a comic book story starring DC Comics’ premier mighty Kryptonian super-hero Clark Kent/Superman.  Not that I intended to drop the character himself out my list of favorite DC Universe super-heroes, but rather it is that during the time being, there was not yet a particular major Superman event I was actually hungry to read. Plus, I happen to like the pre-New 52 Superman (as in the official saga of Superman as it was before being “rebooted” by DC Comics’ New 52 initiative, which happened back in 2011) more than I like the New 52 Superman. Fortunately, my local library has a number of Superman trade paperbacks/graphic novels that are bound to catch my interest.  So, I made another trip to that awesome place, and one book that got my attention to read was a graphic novel written by Kurt Busiek and Dwayne McDuffie called “Superman: The Third Kryptonian”.  Especially when the book included a story plot about Superman searching for the third person of his species to migrate on his current home planet Earth (with Superman and his cousin Kara Zor-El/Supergirl being the first and second respectively). This graphic novel reprints Action Comics (Series Vol. 1) No. 847, Superman (Series Vol. 1) No. 668-670, and Superman (Series Vol. 1) Annual 13. Now, on to the review, fellow readers.   Read more...

SupermanVillainsWith The Man of Steel still racking up the cash at the box office, we can now look forward to that inevitable sequel! Superhero sequels are very important, because they truly solidify the franchise and with all that “boring origin stuff” out of the way, we can finally get a good more comic book feel and hit the ground running. And as seen in movies like Dark Knight, Spider-Man 2 and the upcoming Captain America: Winter Soldier, we can also concentrate on the villains a little more, and give them more attention. So, that begs the question...who should Henry Cavill’s Superman face next?! I have a few logical choices, a few more that would be just AWESOME but we probably will never see, and then a few that I hope we never get around to seeing!!! Ever!! Not needed whatsoever. injustice_zod_headerIn case you think General Zod doesn't beat the crap outta Henry Cavill enough in Man of Steel this weekend, we can all recreate the epic battle in Injustice: Gods Among Us very soon! The other night on Conan O'Brien's show on his Clueless Gamer review segment, he sampled the new DLC character and a special made Superman skin just for "Consey"! Take a look for yourself! This video is pretty hilarious as Conan goes up against Aaron Blair, a member of his staff! Read more...

2013_man_of_steel_movie-wideJust when you don't think there can be any more footage to make you want to see Man of Steel more, there is one last final trailer (pretty sure it's the final one)! There isn't much new footage, but there is at least a few more shots of Superman taking on General Zod! With all the rumurs of people that have seen the film like Jim Lee and even Henry Cavill himself shedding a few tears, there is no doubt that this film will make some of us leak water from our eyes in happiness. And how could it not with Zack Snyder directing and Christopher Nolan producing? Read more...
