3802601-2447916540-35805Do you smell what Black Adam is cookin’? Among all of the crazy news this week what with the passing of yet another legend of comedy (R.I.P. Joan Rivers), nearly every young female celebrity’s naughty pictures getting leaked onto the internet and Cee-Lo Green making us want to delete all of our Gnarls Barkley records, some of you may have missed the bit of GREAT news that broke. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Warner Bros. finally confirmed that the big role that he has landed for a big DC Comics film was indeed Black Adam in a (also confirmed) Shazam live action feature film! This is something the fans have wanted for quite some time, seeing as Black Adam is quite a cult favorite and is a perfect role for the "People’s Champ". Adam is a former Egyptian pharaoh and has disdain for all he encounters. He believes he is better than everyone and isn’t shy about saying it or showing it. Read more...

75-years-small75 years ago two young Jewish immigrants created a story about a dashing hero from another planet that inspired billons of people all over the world for generations, and still continues to do so. The cousins Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster created Superman in 1938, and they probably didn’t know the impact the character would have, but now The Man of Steel and his cast of supporting characters and villains have become part of the fabric of not only America’s culture, but the world’s. None of this would be here if not for Superman. I likely wouldn’t be writing this column, and  interest in comic books may not even exist! Read more...

Dave Michaels (FPB) | DC Entertainment's trend for turning their most popular comic stories into loyal and fan-friendly animated films rolls on in 2013 with Superman Unbound, swooping in to save the day on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download! The film is based on Geoff Johns'  and Gary Frank's Brainiac story arc from Action Comics #866-870. In the story, Superman and Supergirl battle Brainiac to save the bottled city of Kandor. The cast includes White Collar's Matt Bomer as the voice to Superman, Fringe's John Noble as Brainiac, Castle's Stana Katic as Lois Lane and Molly Quinn as Supergirl. The movie looks like another action-packed animated feature! Check out the trailer! Read more...

ROBotiX | We’ve had rebirths, relaunches and now it’s the turn of the re-imaginings. In DC’s continuing attempts to garner new audiences and enhance their numbers, they devised a bold alternative route...*firing up the generators. Rather than go for a full line relaunch (this was before the New 52), it was decided to deconstruct key characters within their house and give them a fresh spin.*tachyons accelerating… Read more...

Dropping the Hammer Again I have been reading the new JLA since it came out. It is one of the flagship titles of the New 52 from the begging as well as it should be. You had earth’s greatest heroes together in one book. It had a lot of promise. That is until you started reading it. I hate to knock a Geoff Johns book. He is one of my favorite DC writers. What he did with The Flash, making his Rogues Gallery relevant, and all of the great work that he did on Green Lantern before the reboot seems to have come undone, starting with the characterization of Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern he brought back to prominence. He has turned him into a blowhard, rushing into everything and getting his butt handed to him. His dialogue is horrible. Second is the characterization of the second character he brought back to prominence The Flash.  Read more...
