Toronto-based Chapterhouse Comics is a fairly new company in the comic book publishing game, but they are taking full initiative with what they want to do. And that is bring homegrown Canadian comic books to the world. They’ve begun with Captain Canuck and Northguard, which had already existed and were published independently for decades, and has continued with new modern heroes like The Pitiful Human Lizard and Die Kitty Die! Comic book publishing isn’t an easy thing these days, but Chapterhouse has some star power behind them. Namely in the form of their Chief Creative Officer, Hollywood actor Jay Baruchel (and my fellow Montrealer), star of Tropic Thunder, This Is The End and Disney’s The Sorceror’s Apprentice. Jay is not only the CCO, he is also the writer of Captain Canuck: Year One, a new series that reboots Comely’s unapologetically (for a change) Canadian superhero from the ground up and for a new audience. Oh yeah! It’s that time of year once again! Wrestlemania season! That time of the year when almost everyone (or at least more people that you think) get together and watch the 4 hour extravaganza involving big muscley men and women (and sometimes a zombie or a leprechaun or a voodoo priest) wearing outlandish tight outfits and getting in the ring in front of thousands of people for a fight that’s not really a fight...but still very treacherous nonetheless. This is Lantom’s only appearance in Season 2, but once again, his wisdom indeed helps Matt with his duty as “The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen”. Read more...

So, it all but looks like the Marvel Universe will be getting the do-over treatment once their mega-event Secret Wars comes to its conclusion. Which could be called a bit redundant, since DC Comics did it not even 5 years ago. But I personally always choose to look at the situation “glass half full”, and absolutely refuse to see ONLY the bad effects from flushing away decades of continuity in one fell swoop (actually, I already did that in another column months ago). After all, it’s now happening no matter what. I might as well look forward to the ushering in of a whole new age of Marvel comics! More importantly, a whole new era for creators who may have never even gotten the chance to work on certain titles a chance to start from scratch and rebuild these heroes from the ground up.
