Every year I run into a film like X-Men: Apocalypse, the latest Fox presentation of Marvel’s beloved mutants. I will explain what I mean in the conclusion, but first I wanted to discuss the film and its highs and lows. The film opened to respectable box office on the Memorial Day holiday weekend in the U.S. the reviews thus far have been largely critical and partly astounded but I think what happened to this movie is the same thing that happened to Jupiter Ascending, John Carter and even to some degree old school films like Krull suffered from.  What they suffered from is a great budget, great director but in the acting department…well just say that it was that aspect that kept an amazing film just average. There was no new episode for Supergirl this week, and while the sadness lingers from this new joy has arisen. The new promotional art released today for the March 28th Supergirl/Flash crossover is almost the most exciting news surrounding the show. Almost. What thrills the nerves and stimulates the cortex is the announcement that Supergirl is getting a season 2. While we don’t know for sure what the rest of season one holds it is still a fan exercise to create a wish list for next season. Read more...

There are two truths about holidays that are now indisputable. First, not everyone gets the luxury of friends and family at this time – so make sure to reach out – and the second is that more than ever before people are spending the holidays glued to Netflix, On Demand or their favorite home entertainment venue like never before. So whether you are working, flying solo or getting together with family and friends it is a safe bet that you will be looking for, discussing or fighting over what to watch haha. Read more...

WARNING: There are spoilers in this article.  Even though we’ve added the obligatory spoiler warning, I’ll find it hard to believe that there are many people who miss this show on the day it airs. In fact, if you are starting to read this and you HAVEN’T seen this episode then you need to stop and come back in sixty minutes. Right, you’ve made it back. Wiped your eyes? Staring into the distance in disbelief? Trying hard not to crush inanimate objects due to Throne Rage? Yep, we’re all there with you in amazement of the series finale of season five (and a little in despair… OK, a lot in despair…). Read more...

So anyone reeling from the conclusion of last week’s episode and was worried as to how the writers of Game of Thrones might top it this week have nothing to fear. The Dance of Dragons was the culmination of a slow burning season that has amped up the tension with relish before reaching a screaming crescendo that surely left all those in the production of the show grinning from ear-to-ear. Let’s start by saying it outright; Hardhome is easily one of the best episodes of Game of Thrones. The pacing in this episode was perfect. The writing was outstanding. The interactions with each of the characters made you itch to see where things were going to go from now on and… The White Walkers brought their game in a ridiculously satisfying conclusion. Or rather, The ‘Gifts,’ as this episode of Game of Thrones was absolutely full of treats this week. The pacing so far of this season has been excellent – the feeling of foreboding is rapidly reaching breaking point as too much seems to being going almost too well for some characters and terribly, terribly wrong for others in ways we never expected. Winter is almost here and the North is becoming hatefully cold, threatening to scupper the advancing plans of Stannis Baratheon’s army as they march closer towards Winterfell. His allies are retreating but his pride is forcing him to continue for the sake of losing face. Melisandre presents him with another opportunity – sacrifice Shireen in order to secure his victory. This was an awesome scene for Stannis. For years we’ve believed him to be manipulated by the Red Lady only to see that this one step too far for the Lord of Light. It adds so much humanity to Stannis and makes you rally towards him – guess that means he’ll be dead soon then… Read more...

The state of the House Stark has been pretty much left to one young lady for now as Bran is notably absent from this season, Jon Snow courts the Wildlings and Ayra pledges to become No One – a title of its own. So it’s up to Sansa to ride the storm of the Bolton’s in the hope of securing her family home and ensuring ‘The North Remembers’ once again. Read more...
