bats1So, okay. I’ve probably been TOO quiet on the fact that at San Diego Comic Con, Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder went and dropped the bomb on all of us that Superman will be encountering Batman in a future movie. Finally we will get to see The Caped Crusader and The Man of Steel on screen together on film. Geeks everywhere are collectively trying to contain our excitement. We’ve all waited our lives for this movie. Alas, with Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise seemingly over and done, Christian Bale will most likely probably not be the Batman we will see in this particular adventure. So, of course, speculators are now doing what they do best...speculating. Read more...

wolverine121So, with everyone’s favorite hairy Canadian making his rounds once again in theaters (the movie is great, go check it out!), I realized it was time to dust off the ‘ol Dave’s Definitive column and bring to you, my faithful Bleederz, the DD to end all DD’s! I make no adamantium-laced bones about it. I freaking love Wolverine. Ever since I was a wee lad, this character was the ideal cool superhero...and that opinion never left me. Seeing this character in my old X-Men Classics fighting the likes of Proteus and The Brood with his blood soaked claws and tough guy demeanor was all I needed. Logan showed me at a young age that superheroes could look a lot like villains and still be the good guys, and looks can definitely be deceiving. Read more...

batmansupermanThe news that came from San Diego Comic Con this year wasn’t exceptionally forthcoming but one thing that definitely started fans chattering is the semi-announcement of a Batman/Superman movie. There wasn’t an official, hey we’re definitely making a Batman and Superman team up movie, but some dialogue was read and a logo was revealed. This is just enough information to get plenty of speculators speculating. Read more...

pacific-rim-comic-con-posterRun for your lives! Evacuate the city! Hide your daughters! It’s The Bleeder King!! With Guillermo Del Toro’s monsters vs. robots epic, Pacific Rim coming out this coming Friday, I thought it would be a snazzy idea to take some of the craziest monolithic robots and ginourmous monsters from comics and pit them up against each other one-on-one in an epic, city crushing, smackdown! I took the biggest, baddest giant monsters around and I think I came up with a pretty good card with matches involving characters from Marvel, DC, IDW and Dark Horse and while these matches will probably never happen, it’s fun to ask...“what if?” Read more...

kinopoisk.ruOne of the most visually mesmerizing movies of the past 10 years was 300, based on the Frank Miller graphic novel of the same name. This movie showed that not all good comic book movies had to be about super heroes, and it made Zack Snyder a top director in Hollywood. Now Snyder is passing his director's chair to a relative newcomer, Noam Murro, for the sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire. Based on Miller's upcoming (hopefully) Xerxes graphic novel, Rise of an Empire follows legendary greek leader Themistocles as he leads his army against the only recorded female commander of the Persian fleet, Artemisia and Xerxes,"The God King". The film stars Sullivan Stapleton as Themistocles, Eva Green as Artemisia, and reprising their roles from the first film are Lena Headey as Queen Gorgo and Rodrigo Santoro as Xerxes. Read more...

Mikegrell_profileI have rarely had the chance to sit down with artists and creators that I literally grew up admiring, and sometimes those people are let downs. They aren’t always as awesome as you'd hoped. This is not the case with Mike Grell, the legendary artist of DC’s The Warlord and the critically acclaimed Green Arrow: Longbow Hunters. Grell’s work on Longbow Hunters and the ongoing Green Arrow series after that set the standard for Green Arrow stories and inspired guys like Kevin Smith, Judd Winick and Andy Diggle to take on the character. Not to mention a certain TV show on the CW Network has taken Grell’s work and imagery and brought it to a mass audience. I had the honor to sit down with Mike (I’m allowed to call him Mike) at Ottawa ComicCon, and talk about his humble beginnings as an illustrator, Warlord, his reinvention of Oliver Queen and as a a special added bonus, a story that proves that being a comic creator is sometimes just as cool as being a rock star! 1359482592_new-synopsis-for-the-wolverine_preview_0924The summer blockbuster scene is heating up! With so many cool movies being released this year, it looks like we are all going to be spending a lot of time at the multiplex! And this new trailer for The Wolverine is another reason for that. Hugh Jackman is back in the muttonchops as everyone's favorite hairy Canadian, as he battles Silver Samurai and Viper in Japan! Yep, it's finally Wolvie in Japan, and if the previous trailer didn't impress you, this one definitely will, bub! Read more...

Daredevil_18_CoverIf you know anything about me, you’d know that I was a fan of Wizard Magazine, if not that it was an actual magazine stuffed with fun articles about comics and comics related topics. It was a genuine magazine publication devoted to the stuff I loved. Wizard had letters page, top 10 lists, interviews, previews of upcoming comics and of course this cool column that I always looked forward to: Casting Call, where they would cast actors into completely fabricated comic book adapted movies. This was when comic book movies were just beginning to emerge in abundance, so this was pretty imaginative and we never really thought that any of the movies would be made...but here we are with 2 or 3 major comic book films coming out every summer! So you can imagine how happy I am to be a full-fledged comic book columnist and sort of get the chance to keep what Wizard started right here in The Bleed every week! So, the big Marvel Studios news from Marvel’s Big Shot Mega-Producer Kevin Feige this week was that the rights that 20th Century Fox had to produce Daredevil movies have expired and the rights go back to Marvel, to do with as they please.
