Back when I was young and sifting through my older brother’s comic collection, I used to stumble upon this quirky book called Suicide Squad. I’m not even sure I knew what “suicide” even meant at the time, but none of the characters at the time seemed very appealing to me. You had one guy with an all silver mask and a red eye, a guy that dressed like a cast member from Cats, a witch in every sense of the word...pointy hat and all, a weird guy dressed as a flight attendant and then, one character that I immediately recognized: THE PENGUIN! Of course now I know those other characters as Deadshot, Bronze Tiger, Captain Boomerang and Enchantress. Read more...

In case you missed last time's episode of Arrow, here is a recap for you. Oliver Queen/Arrow and John Diggle managed to bring Malcolm Merlyn back to Starling City from Nanda Parbat alive after Oliver refused Ra's Al Ghul's offer to name him the next head of the League of Assassins. Unfortunately, Oliver started to wonder if his refusing to accept the offer was a bad decision when the League of Assassins leader's prediction of  the Arrow's tragic fate started to come true, especially with the part where Captain Quentin Lance of the Starling City Police Department ended up cutting ties with the Archer super-hero himself out of bitterness over his daughter Laurel's and the Arrow's decision to hide the truth about Laurel's sister Sara Lance's death from him. admin-ajax.phpI have been reviewing DC animated films since Mask of the Phantasm, to which I sent my local paper in the early days of my career. When I started getting advance review copies from a source I cultivated on my own, I thought I was in heaven. I am still. The upcoming Warner Bros/DC animated film Batman: Assault on Arkham is the latest soon to be released to DVD and Blu-Ray. It expands the Elseworlds element of the DCNAU started with the Flashpoint Paradox. This film is based upon the Arkham Asylum video game line. Arkam Asylum, Arkham City and Arkham Origins are three of the most successful video games in the history of the interactive visual medium. One of the main reasons for this are the stories and the world created by the two different teams who gave us the games. They painted a gruesome and bleak Gotham that left the user covered in grime and coupled it with a revolutionary fighting engine to make Batman a beacon of hope (the player is Batman) to stand out in the night. Bringing this to a traditionally animated film (it isn’t CGI) is an ambitious and near impossible feat it would seem but risks are the modus operandi of DC these days…   Read more...

Do we really need the Joker? An Arkham Knight Supplemental   Ark origins Joker   As a comic book fan and a gamer, it’s hard not be excited when news of a new chapter in any superhero franchise is due for release. The Arkham games from Rocksteady Studios and Warner Bros. Montreal set the bar high (although some consider Arkham Origins the weakest of the three, it is by no means a bad game) and made video game reviewers sit up and take note. Read more...
