Injustice: Gods Among Us was only just the beginning. NetherRealm, the same video game studio that develops the Mortal Kombat series has yet another blockbuster Fighter franchise on their hands. Injustice delves into an alternate DC Universe where Earth’s greatest hero, Superman, becomes the type of tyrannical villain he was once sworn to oppose after he executes The Joker. The snowball effect of that event creates a world where our heroes and villains are drastically changed and the status quo of the DC Universe is flipped upside down. The first game’s story mode had the heroes of a more familiar Earth come to help Batman’s rebels battle Superman’s regime, but this new installment shows us the aftermath of that story. A new threat emerges as Brainiac (who is responsible for the destruction of Krypton in this reality) attacks Earth’s cities and enlists the world’s vilest menaces to aide him. Read more...

Barreling into the darkness at a rapid pace is never wholly comfortable, even if you are just a witness to it. With each installment of season 4 the creative team at Arrow seems to be doubling down on Ollie’s commitment to the light and with each installment the narrative demands that life kick mud all over the team – what is left of it.  We have explored in detail the thematic balancing act the show has maintained between the scripted and intentional narrative and the implications that serve as undertones for the thematic heart of the show. We are fast approaching the climax of the 2015-2016 seasons of the DC Television Universe with only a few episodes of Gotham, Arrow, Lucifer, The Flash, iZombie, Legends of Tomorrow and only one left of the new smash Supergirl. While everyone in fandom has favorite characters from DC Comics, each wing of the DCTVU has a unique feel and a distinct voice. Since being your weekly episodic guide through three shows this season (Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash) I thought it would be fun to try once again to play armchair executive and make some perfect fits for each. Day to Marvel Now there have been elevator successes and failures as well as a yo-yo industry Since I was little, when I first started reading magazines about comics and letters to the editor the industry has always towed the same line when changing things up or making giant moves like a reboot or a renumbering. It seems that the entire point of comics is to, “give new readers a jumping on point while still delivering the same wonderful characters the longtime fans have come to love.” Read more...

There are two truths about holidays that are now indisputable. First, not everyone gets the luxury of friends and family at this time – so make sure to reach out – and the second is that more than ever before people are spending the holidays glued to Netflix, On Demand or their favorite home entertainment venue like never before. So whether you are working, flying solo or getting together with family and friends it is a safe bet that you will be looking for, discussing or fighting over what to watch haha. Read more...

Welcome back to the weekly Arrow review, as we walk through the season together episode by episode. In the sixth episode of this – the fourth season – it seems Arrow has finally caught up to itself. What I mean by this is that after three seasons (two of which we weren’t sure if we were watching Batman or Green Arrow) and six episodes of a fourth the loose ends have wrapped, the characterization is complete and the team is defined and each member has a role and a function that is fully understood. While the DC Cinematic Universe is likely to be internet cannon fodder and contentious to the last fanboy it is clear the television division of WB has struck gold in the seasonal superhero series department. For 10 seasons the WB squirmed and experimented and tested ideas on Smallville and when Arrow launched 4 seasons ago the finished formula resulted in the successful ratings launches of The Flash, Gotham and Supergirl and critically acclaimed but canceled Constantine. So leaving out the latter and focusing on the former it is clear that the spines of all these shows follow what has worked with Arrow and any attempt to disguise it is abandoned altogether.
