Injustice: Gods Among Us was only just the beginning. NetherRealm, the same video game studio that develops the Mortal Kombat series has yet another blockbuster Fighter franchise on their hands. Injustice delves into an alternate DC Universe where Earth’s greatest hero, Superman, becomes the type of tyrannical villain he was once sworn to oppose after he executes The Joker. The snowball effect of that event creates a world where our heroes and villains are drastically changed and the status quo of the DC Universe is flipped upside down. The first game’s story mode had the heroes of a more familiar Earth come to help Batman’s rebels battle Superman’s regime, but this new installment shows us the aftermath of that story. A new threat emerges as Brainiac (who is responsible for the destruction of Krypton in this reality) attacks Earth’s cities and enlists the world’s vilest menaces to aide him. Read more...

If you will recall from my previous column, I had decided to (due to all of the good reviews associated with DC Comics' new "DC REBIRTH" books) to try out a couple and see how I liked them. Last week, I reviewed Batman #15 and found it an enjoyable issue (I was not TOO happy with the ending, however) and this column is the Flash #15's turn! The issue begins with the Rogue's Gallery breaking into a museum in order to steal a huge golden bejeweled statue of Mercury, God Of Thieves. The assembled Rogues are their leader, Captain Cold, his sister The Golden Glider, The Mirror Master, the Weather Wizard, Heat Wave and the new Trickster. Read more...

Welcome back to the weekly episodic breakdown of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow on ENR. Last week the entire perspective on this show changed and the DCTVU is never going to look the same. This week the team travels to 1987, visits their younger selves and learns in detail about the tides of change and how it applies to our time travel heroes…er legends. Read more...

With episode 4 of Legends of Tomorrow the stride has finally been hit Though for this viewer it was more a sudden understanding of what the CW was trying to accomplish that chaged my perspective of the show dramatically. If you have read my reviews of the first three episodes you know I have been both critical and praising of the show but this episode changes everything. And by changes I mean the name of the game. To make a show primarily focused on time travel is a difficult thing when you rely on the headiness of the plot to anchor the viewer rather than the emotional bonds of less intricately plotted shows. One of the easiest ways to do this however involves making the time periods relevant and interesting enough to tell more self-contained stories within the larger. But with Legends, as we have discussed, there is a serious piece missing from the series, even more than last season’s freshman run. You see, the best parts of the CW superhero lineup on the other nights of the week is the deep thematic approach that is not taken here and those themes tend to make us emotionally connected to them. For the first time, it is my honor to walk you through DC’s Legends of Tomorrow each week like I did for Flash, Arrow and Supergirl last season. However, as I watched the two-part season premiere for examination and exploration here I was immediately struck by how different this series is structurally from the rest of the Arrowverse.   Read more...

We are fast approaching the climax of the 2015-2016 seasons of the DC Television Universe with only a few episodes of Gotham, Arrow, Lucifer, The Flash, iZombie, Legends of Tomorrow and only one left of the new smash Supergirl. While everyone in fandom has favorite characters from DC Comics, each wing of the DCTVU has a unique feel and a distinct voice. Since being your weekly episodic guide through three shows this season (Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash) I thought it would be fun to try once again to play armchair executive and make some perfect fits for each.
