Look out! Here comes the Spider-Man! Let’s be honest, Spidey has not had the easiest time being adapted to the big screen. While the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire trilogy and even the Marc Webb/Andrew Garfield films have their fans, they had their share of critics too. Read more...

I’ve been wanting to do this column for weeks now, and in that amount of time some interesting developments have happened to the solo Batman movie in development starring Ben Affleck. Affleck first dropped out of being the director of the film allegedly because he didn’t think he could handle starring AND directing...which sounds pretty simple. Then Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves was apparently being courted for the job, then some rumors of Affleck being (ALREADY?) tired of being The Bat sprouted around the internet....and now apparently the Reeves thing has fallen apart. The movie could very well be in limbo at this point. Read more...

Previously on Agent Carter: She finally got that dance! Sort of! Not really! While trying to stop Whitney Frost and Jason Wilkes (supposedly under the influence of Zero Matter) from opening a rift in the desert and creating more Zero Matter using a gamma blaster designed by Howard Stark and built by SSR's bumbling scientist Aloysius Samberly, Peggy and Jarvis got knocked out and she dreamed an entire dance number! For real! It was sort of weird. Read more...

Last season on Agent Carter: A year after the events of Captain America: First Avenger, Captain America’s former flame Peggy Carter struggled to find her place in the Strategic Scientific Reserve (which would eventually become S.H.I.E.L.D.), and being a woman in the spy field in the late 1940’s. After being tired of being considered nothing more but a glorified secretary by her male peers, Peggy takes control of her situation and conducts her own investigation of her old ally, Howard Stark (the father of Iron Man) possibly selling weapons to America’s enemies. Of course, he’s wasn’t, and it was all a conspiracy. Alongside Stark’s faithful butler (and Tony’s future caretaker) Jarvis, Carter uncovers a devious plot that gives her her first real arch-nemesis, Russian spy and Red Room product (the same program that would eventually train future Black Widow, Natasha Romanov), Dottie Underwood. When Marvel does a mid-season filler, it goes big! Instead of watching reruns while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is on hiatus, ABC last year had a much more stellar idea...and we got the return of one of the MCU’s most beloved heroines, Peggy Carter. Agent Carter the TV series had an extraordinary season last year, as it took place where Captain America: the First Avenger had left off and Peggy was struggling as the known love interest of WWII’s greatest hero and being a tough and independent woman in the S.S.R. (Strategic Scientific Reserve), the precursor to S.H.I.E.L.D. , in the late 1940’s. In that male dominated world, Peggy, along with hr old ally Howard Stark and his faithful butler Edwin Jarvis. Well, it seems we are well into the “remake era” of films. Many beloved (and not so much) movies of the past like Total Recall, Annie, Robocop, Godzilla, Point Break, Poltergeist, Friday The 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Fantastic Four and even Ghostbusters have been or are currently being remade. Do you even know there are talks of remaking Drop Dead Fred?!? DROP DEAD FRED! I can’t make that crap up. Is it getting out of hand? Do we even NEED to see the SAME premise rebooted over and over, even though it wasn’t so bad the FIRST time? Read more...

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-International-PosterGiant talking trees! Gun toting racoons! Sexy green women that mean business! Hollywood’s new super-franchise is Guardians of the Galaxy, and judging by the numbers coming in, Marvel and Disney have another blockbuster franchise on their hands. I think everyone is delightfully surprised that this film is doing so well, I mean, let’s face it...we were all sort of skeptical at Marvel doing this one. I mean, the comic always had a cult following, but hardly anyone I know grew up reading GotG, including myself. In fact, I did my best to stay away from cosmic Marvel. I of course, regret that now. Heck, my first literary encounter with Groot was when he applied to be Luke Cage’s babysitter in New Avengers just a few years ago. And that was just a silly gag...never did I think we would see him become a big screen superhero voiced by Vin Diesel. But here we are! The movie turned out to be one of Marvel’s best, and like that first Iron Man film, it has changed the scope of movies. You’ll see what I mean soon enough. Read more...
