Injustice: Gods Among Us was only just the beginning. NetherRealm, the same video game studio that develops the Mortal Kombat series has yet another blockbuster Fighter franchise on their hands. Injustice delves into an alternate DC Universe where Earth’s greatest hero, Superman, becomes the type of tyrannical villain he was once sworn to oppose after he executes The Joker. The snowball effect of that event creates a world where our heroes and villains are drastically changed and the status quo of the DC Universe is flipped upside down. The first game’s story mode had the heroes of a more familiar Earth come to help Batman’s rebels battle Superman’s regime, but this new installment shows us the aftermath of that story. A new threat emerges as Brainiac (who is responsible for the destruction of Krypton in this reality) attacks Earth’s cities and enlists the world’s vilest menaces to aide him. Read more...

I was recently drawn into a thread on Facebook that asked if we thought that the Atom was/is a "B-Lister" character. My EXACT response to this--"I do NOT find the Atom, Hawkman, Hawkwoman, Zatanna, Red Tornado, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Elongated Man, Aquaman or the Martian Manhunter to be ANYTHING but A-Listers!" Well, it’s Valentine’s Day (or Valentine’s week or month for some...why have bounderies?), the time when lovers love and secret admirers let their feelings be known! And single people? Well, I guess they all deal with this day differently! The most important thing, whether you believe in celebrating V-Day or not, is that you appreciate your special someone all year around! And for those of us bleeding hearts that bleed comics as well, we get our #relationshipgoals from our heroes and their perfect/not-so perfect relationships! So, I figured what better way to toot St. Valentine’s horn by firing up the ‘ol Listmaster 5000 machine and do one of my old fashioned lists! This time it’s comics’ Top 10 Power Couples! Some are superheroes with non-superheroes, and some of them are both supers...but all of these sweethearts showed us that their true powers are their love for each other (awwww)! Read more...

Do you wanna rock? Well I do! There have been quite a few rock & roll acts to grace the pages of mainstream comics, some are real artists (like Prince, Alice Cooper, KISS and even Run DMC) who had their own comic series, but there have also been so many FICTIONAL rock bands that we so wish here the real deal. I’ve decided to share, as the music festivals of summer begin to become an every weekend occurrence, to honor those bands from the pages of our favorite comics that we wish we could actually add to our playlists! After reading the synopsis for The Flash in the TVGUIDE.com list, I found out that while not necessarily labeled as such both episode 21 The Runaway Dinosaur and episode 22 Invincible were perfect to review together in a thematic comparison format. While I have broken down each episode of the season individually thus far I was looking for a chance to do a starker example of theme and device for the show and this sat ready as a perfect opportunity for me.  Read more...

It is never easy when a loved one dies, even if they are fictional. For Arrow the death has been far less permanent and far more fluid than we can hope for in real life. Yet grief fascinates us as a culture because it is so powerful in us. When grief over takes a human being it changes the filter and scope of all we do for a time until the cycle has passed and scars have formed over the once too painful wounds of loss. Read more...

There is a time in every series where the rules change and a show becomes something completely different then what it was. But there is also a time in every season where the creators want you to think the fundamental change has arrived in order to swerve the viewer for the sake of entertaining them. The problem I am now faced with as your weekly guide through Arrow season 4 is that with show it happens a few times each season and frankly, it is easy to be cynical and still get swerved. Of all the shows in the DCTVU, it is the template for them all that makes me the most frustrated to date. Sure it could be from the fact it has run the longest or that it had the hardest time finding its voice but more likely still what vexes me about Arrow is what ultimately makes it great. When Arrow experiments, or more importantly, clings to its own rules, it creates waves of aww and gasp but also the knowledge I don’t get my way as a viewer all the time. Read more...
