It shouldn’t have taken this long. Wonder Woman, the first full-fledged female superhero, created in 1942 by Charles Moulton Marston (also the creator of the polygraph test, in case you didn’t know) and H.G. Peter and maybe one of the most recognized comic book icons in history should have gotten a live action, full-length, wide released film adaptation DECADES ago. But perhaps the world was not ready. Perhaps female-led superhero movie flops like Catwoman and Elektra held things back. But let’s be honest here. The fact that Barb Wire got a movie before Wonder Woman is just too embarrassing. Here we are fully underway in 2017 and there are a helllluva lot of comic book movies happening this year! I’m excited! Now I know that’s no surprise...people call me the most positive fanboy on the planet. I give every movie the chance to impress me, and I admit it, I’m an easy sell. That’s just the person I am. I suppose I’m simply one of those fans that remembers a time when comic book and superhero movies were few and far between, and clearly not the level they are now. I am enjoying this amazing era we are living in! Read more...

I’ve been wanting to do this column for weeks now, and in that amount of time some interesting developments have happened to the solo Batman movie in development starring Ben Affleck. Affleck first dropped out of being the director of the film allegedly because he didn’t think he could handle starring AND directing...which sounds pretty simple. Then Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves was apparently being courted for the job, then some rumors of Affleck being (ALREADY?) tired of being The Bat sprouted around the internet....and now apparently the Reeves thing has fallen apart. The movie could very well be in limbo at this point. Read more...

She stole the show by uniting with Batman and Superman in BvS, and now Gal Gadot is back in the tiara and strapping on the golden lasso of truth in her own solo movie as Wonder Woman!  The San Diego Comic Con fans got the first look at the brand new trailer, and now we have it here for all to feast their eyeballs on! And it is "wonderful!" Read more...

Days ago, I had the opportunity to see Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice (reviewed by ENR's very own Lisa "Spazzy" McCarty back in early April) in movie theaters as I did not want to miss out on watching this now-landmark in the history of American superhero movies before it is no longer available for access in cinemas. Although I respected its director Zack Snyder's efforts in setting his version of Batman's first encounter with superpowered beings apart from the way DC Universe canon usually depicts it, I personally felt turned off by the last several minutes due to the direction it took in terms of Superman's role. To be honest, I was so disappointed that now I am unsure about if I ever wanted to see this iconic character again in any future live-action screen productions. So while I despised the ending as a Superman fan, I accepted the dark violent tone as a fan of both Batman and Wonder Woman. Read more...

In the Fall 2015, the DC Universe super-heroine Kara Zor-El, the most popular DC character to go by the moniker of Supergirl, was granted her chance to shine as a solo protagonist on the small screen as Supergirl premiered, and although it is only in its first season, it manages to be a huge Nielsen rating victor and many sci-fi fans in the west (even those who are not regular basis comic book readers) seem to can't get enough of the super-heroine herself. In case you never heard of Kara Zor-El, the description of her life story is simply: she is a natural blonde beauty from planet Krypton who possesses the same powers and strength as her cousin Kal-El (also known as "Clark Kent" and "Superman") and seeks to find her place on Earth. Well, whether you loved it, hated it or just thought it was okay, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice made its mark at the box office and drew in record numbers worldwide. And it’s confirmed that now Ben Affleck (the guy in the bat-suit, in case you didn’t know) and DC big shot writer Geoff Johns will be writing the screenplay for a solo film starring Affleck’s Batman. But with so many Batman films in the past, what could they possibly do with the caped crusader that already hasn’t been done?! Read more...

Just recently, Warner Bros. And DC Entertainment released the controversial superhero film Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which marked the first time in the history of live-action screen productions that Superman and Batman appear together in the same production. While I have not yet seen this duel-themed film, it still remains in my "must-see" list of movies as I remain curious about how far each of these two famous superheroes would go to defeat the other. A coincidence about Batman v. Superman's release is that it happened in the same screen season when WrestleMania 32 took place (it aired on PPV by the way) and when another versus-themed movie Justice League vs. Teen Titans got released. It looks like we are in a major season of versus mania on both big and small screens, and there is no doubt that it will continue with the release of Captain America: Civil War, which will see Captain America battling Iron Man.
