I was recently drawn into a thread on Facebook that asked if we thought that the Atom was/is a "B-Lister" character. My EXACT response to this--"I do NOT find the Atom, Hawkman, Hawkwoman, Zatanna, Red Tornado, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Elongated Man, Aquaman or the Martian Manhunter to be ANYTHING but A-Listers!" My readers have heard me speak reverently several times in the past about the Rock Bottom Bookshop, which I frequented in my childhood. We comic book fans of a certain era, pre-comic shops, and WAY before Previews, you could never be sure that you would get the books that you wanted. That is why I loved going to the Rock Bottom! The Rock Bottom, an institution in our town nowadays, was founded and managed by Ms. Wilda (NOT Wilma) Hardin. Read more...

Last week, I told of a couple of convenience stores that I used to go to back in my childhood. I HAD an actual comic book store, complete with both new comics and vintage back issues in my town. But the owner did not stock EVERYTHING for the discerning collector. Back then in the 1970's and even into the early 1980's, a kid had to cover a great deal of ground in order to find ALL of the books that they collected each month. I never paid all that much attention to the names of the stores, so when I wanted to go to a particular store, I had to use descriptive nick names to tell my parents which store I needed to get to then. A few months back, I (alongside my friend Mike), went back to my old Junior High School for a day of wondering the halls, checking out our old classrooms and doing a great deal of "Remember When...". And what was the special occasion, you might ask? Ramay Junior High School was having a special Open House Day in honor of the school's Fiftieth Anniversary. Read more...

Well, it’s Valentine’s Day (or Valentine’s week or month for some...why have bounderies?), the time when lovers love and secret admirers let their feelings be known! And single people? Well, I guess they all deal with this day differently! The most important thing, whether you believe in celebrating V-Day or not, is that you appreciate your special someone all year around! And for those of us bleeding hearts that bleed comics as well, we get our #relationshipgoals from our heroes and their perfect/not-so perfect relationships! So, I figured what better way to toot St. Valentine’s horn by firing up the ‘ol Listmaster 5000 machine and do one of my old fashioned lists! This time it’s comics’ Top 10 Power Couples! Some are superheroes with non-superheroes, and some of them are both supers...but all of these sweethearts showed us that their true powers are their love for each other (awwww)! Read more...

If you will recall from my previous column, I had decided to (due to all of the good reviews associated with DC Comics' new "DC REBIRTH" books) to try out a couple and see how I liked them. Last week, I reviewed Batman #15 and found it an enjoyable issue (I was not TOO happy with the ending, however) and this column is the Flash #15's turn! The issue begins with the Rogue's Gallery breaking into a museum in order to steal a huge golden bejeweled statue of Mercury, God Of Thieves. The assembled Rogues are their leader, Captain Cold, his sister The Golden Glider, The Mirror Master, the Weather Wizard, Heat Wave and the new Trickster. Read more...

I finally got around to reading a couple of the new "DC Rebirth" titles. I have heard many good things about the new DC titles from several friends and decided to try them out. I decided to try out the newest issues of two of my all time favorite characters -- Batman and the Flash! The issues that I just read (Batman #15 and the Flash #15) are BRAND NEW! They are just off of the book store shelves! Therefore, SPOILER WARNINGS are in full effect! You have been warned! Read more...
