WARNING: There are spoilers in this article.  Even though we’ve added the obligatory spoiler warning, I’ll find it hard to believe that there are many people who miss this show on the day it airs. In fact, if you are starting to read this and you HAVEN’T seen this episode then you need to stop and come back in sixty minutes. Right, you’ve made it back. Wiped your eyes? Staring into the distance in disbelief? Trying hard not to crush inanimate objects due to Throne Rage? Yep, we’re all there with you in amazement of the series finale of season five (and a little in despair… OK, a lot in despair…). Read more...

So anyone reeling from the conclusion of last week’s episode and was worried as to how the writers of Game of Thrones might top it this week have nothing to fear. The Dance of Dragons was the culmination of a slow burning season that has amped up the tension with relish before reaching a screaming crescendo that surely left all those in the production of the show grinning from ear-to-ear. Let’s start by saying it outright; Hardhome is easily one of the best episodes of Game of Thrones. The pacing in this episode was perfect. The writing was outstanding. The interactions with each of the characters made you itch to see where things were going to go from now on and… The White Walkers brought their game in a ridiculously satisfying conclusion. The state of the House Stark has been pretty much left to one young lady for now as Bran is notably absent from this season, Jon Snow courts the Wildlings and Ayra pledges to become No One – a title of its own. So it’s up to Sansa to ride the storm of the Bolton’s in the hope of securing her family home and ensuring ‘The North Remembers’ once again. Read more...

The House of Black and White has already begun laying some of the ground work for the events yet to come this season by orchestrating the positioning of key players into specific locations and interrupting the status quo. Never being one to make us feel comfortable, this episode of Game of Thrones has some more upbeat moments that you can feel are desperately tinged with danger. The excellent Maisie Williams returned as Arya Stark who we last saw setting sail for Braavos in search of her enigmatic protector, Jaqen H’ghar. Arriving at Braavos felt truly epic as the young Stark passed under the legs of the colossus guarding the port and arrived at gates of the House of Black and White, a guild that still remains as obscure as its inhabitants. Initially being shunned, Arya passes the first initiation and is reunited with her mysterious savior and protector as he switches faces to reveal his true identity. Hopefully, the upcoming insight into what goes on behind those doors won’t reveal too much about Jaqen H’ghar as the unknown is simply what makes him so wonderful to watch. Read more...

“You’re no son of mine.” – Tywin Lannister “I am your son. I have always been your son.” – Tyrion Lannister   Game_of_thrones-logo   The finale of season four of Game of Thrones was one that served to tie-up loose ends and tantalize us with even further promise of things to come in ten months time. This has been a season that has not stopped in pulling the rug out from under us and surprising us with twist after dramatic twist. The Children was an extended episode that hinged on its title – each act focused on one of the children of the many houses; characters we have seen grow and become shaped by the events of the last four years and, by the end of this episode, seem to be children no longer.   Read more...

“Careful, I’m the last friend you’ve got.” – Jaime Lannister   Game_of_thrones-logo   Season four of this stellar show continues with one of strongest runs of story content and character development since the opening series. We find Tyrion languishing in his cell and Peter Dinklage, yet again, puts him through more emotional difficulty. He portrays the angst and nervousness well – masterfully disguising it enough so as Tyrion does not appear weak – and the vulnerability of the ever confident man begins to show through the cracks.   Read more...

“I saw you die tonight. I saw your body burn. I saw the snow fall and bury your bones.” – Jojen Reed   Game_of_thrones-logo After last week’s low point, it made this episode seem all the more fantastic – but it truly was that. First of His Name, in much the same way it ushered in its new King Tommen, was full of subtle spectacle and made for the most riveting watching of this season so far.   Read more...
