I have written twice before of the days in which a comics collector would have to go to several stores in order to get their favored books. There’s an old song by Peter Allen, Everything Old is New Again. Sure it’s a bit of a love song but who better to relate to this sentiment than comic book readers? Comic book fans are truly passionate about the characters they read about and when one reemerges from the past it can prove tricky. Fans either really loved the old version or they’re ready for a do-over. The same can go for just about anything that’s old that’s new again. Sometimes do-overs aren’t done well and they turn out to be do-unders. The Black Hood character first appeared in Top-Notch #9 in October 1940 for MLJ comics, which would later be named Archie Comics. Black Hood was a masked/costumed man who was trained by a hermit to battle evil. His true identity was Kip Burland, an ex-cop who was framed for grand larceny. He was eventually cleared of the charges but he did not go back to his job as a cop and continued to fight evil as the Black Hood. Read more...
