Injustice: Gods Among Us was only just the beginning. NetherRealm, the same video game studio that develops the Mortal Kombat series has yet another blockbuster Fighter franchise on their hands. Injustice delves into an alternate DC Universe where Earth’s greatest hero, Superman, becomes the type of tyrannical villain he was once sworn to oppose after he executes The Joker. The snowball effect of that event creates a world where our heroes and villains are drastically changed and the status quo of the DC Universe is flipped upside down. The first game’s story mode had the heroes of a more familiar Earth come to help Batman’s rebels battle Superman’s regime, but this new installment shows us the aftermath of that story. A new threat emerges as Brainiac (who is responsible for the destruction of Krypton in this reality) attacks Earth’s cities and enlists the world’s vilest menaces to aide him. Read more...

One of the most prolific graphic novels of all time is definitely V For Vendetta. Written in 1982 by Alan Moore as a comic strip in the British compilation comic, Warrior, it was a dark cautionary commentary on politics and anarchism. Later in 1988, it was published under DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint in the U.S. as a miniseries and gained even more notoriety. Most of you are most familiar with the 2006 film starring Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman (which was not endorsed by Moore) and the Guy Fawkes mask worn by the anti-hero of the story, V, which has become an iconic symbol for many protest groups including the hacktivist group, Anonymous. The animation department at DC/WB has done something that the live action department has yet to accomplish – they made a near perfect Batman movie. This in my opinion is the best Batman film ever made. How do I make this claim? I do not take my animation lightly and if you read my columns at all you will know that I am especially obsessed with Warner Bros. As a reviewer of all things Warner, I feel uniquely qualified to break down this film for you. Lego, Scooby, Tom and Jerry and of course, DC animation are the pinnacle of the direct to video market but Killing Joke was released theatrically and thus puts it alongside BVS, the Nolan and Burton batfilms, not to mention Mask of the Phantasm when comparing the franchise. After a few weeks of clips being released, we are finally treated to the OFFICIAL trailer for WB Animation's adaptation of the Alan Moore classic graphic novel, The Killing Joke! Known as one of the greatest and shocking Batman vs. Joker stories ever, it seems DC has not held back one bit with putting together an R-rated adult adaptation to Moore's tale, which was the story that not only told what most people feel is the definitive Joker origin story, but in which The Joker violently assaults Commissioner Jim Gordon and his daughter, the former Batgirl, Barbara. Well, we’re just a few weeks away from probably one of the most anticipated superhero films ever. Finally, after GENERATIONS of comic book fans waiting for it to happen, the two most popular comic book characters in history will finally meet head-to-head in a film. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice will be when it will happen and, as the title entails, our heroes (played by Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck respectively) will first collide, and then inevitably join forces and form the Justice League (SPOILER ALERT). And oh yes, there is a third character in the mix, the Amazonian warrior princess, Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot), not to mention Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) no doubt manipulating the whole confrontation behind the scenes and releasing the destructive Doomsday on the world! Will there be more? You betcha! Most of the future JL members are rumoured to have cameos, including Aquaman (Jason Mamoa) and Vic Stone/Cyborg (Ray Fisher). This movie is jam-packed! Read more...

You know what they say, “you can’t choose your parents”! And the same goes for the world of comics! For every Ma Kent and Susan Richards....well, you get a Mystique and Talia Al Ghul! But keep in mind, even super villain moms love their kids to a degree, and for this special edition Mother’s Day Bleed, I plan on honoring not only the amazing hero-moms, but the ones we love to hate as well! So roll out the red carpet, get the bouquets ready...I’m counting down the Top 10 (But Not Neccessarily BEST) Moms in comics! Read more...

PrintPlacing one’s tongue firmly in one’s cheek while maintaining a stiff upper lip is something we Brits have always excelled at. I think sarcasm may be something we’re biologically predisposed with – a sort of in-built protective mechanism to guard against the dull weather and feeling of overall apathy that breezes throughout the UK. In comic books, British writers have always found the humour, however irreverent it may be, in the majority of the titles they’ve written. Alan Moore’s dark sensibilities pervade every epic he’s ever penned. Grant Morrison whips up endless, fantastical adventures that are dipped in political and introspective satire while Neil Gaiman’s dry intellect can be seen from the opening pages of Sandman and beyond.
