As you probably know (if you are a regular reader of Full Page Bleed, you are HARDCORE with this stuff), the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 movie is JUST about ready to hit theaters all over the world, and the world (scratch that)...the UNIVERSE is ready. Or is it? There’s a whole lot of new characters and developments about to be unleashed on us in this movie, so we need to be properly prepared for the onslaught. Every so often I do some rigorous research and put together a little must-read guide...just to get everyone caught up to speed and fully aware of what is in store in the latest big superhero blockbuster or TV show. What’s the definition of a hero? Well, if you look it up, the official definition is: a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Does that define Jim Starlin’s power hungry, Death worshipping character, Thanos? Not exactly. Not normally...but in Starlin’s trilogy of graphic novels (also, the Thanos vs. Hulk miniseries coupled in there), here we have a character that has forever been portrayed as tyrannically mad, finding himself in the role of savior of the universe as we know it! It seems to be a huge year for Marvel as they not only will be releasing their comic sequel to their mega event Civil War, but the original comic is also about to be adapted into a live action film in Captain America: Civil War. It is the first of Marvel’s major crossovers to be adapted to film. Read more...

Thanos is back! More specifically The Mad Titan’s creator, Jim Starlin, is back with an all new original graphic novel continuing the space faring shenanigans of the Marvel supervillain. It has been pretty much a year since Starlin’s last Thanos OGN, Infinity Revelation, in which Thanos actually teamed up with his longtime rival, Adam Warlock against some of Marvel’s most beloved cosmic characters. It was a pretty oddball story but had more than its share of both fans and critics (me being one of the latter), but in the end, Starlin’s take on his own character is a unique one, and that alone was worth the read. Even though I’m on the fence with Starlin’s writing style, who am I to argue? This is Thanos how he was meant to be! Read more...

So, I’m probably the most embarrassing guy to go see a superhero movie with. I get pretty excited. Like, REALLY excited. I sometimes squeal like a little girl at little things I see in the background, that like maybe 1 third of people in the theater even see. I’m an easter egg addict. And not just the candy (although I’ve been known to demolish entire bags of Cadbury mini-eggs...and I’m not at all ashamed), I mean when comic book movies put in little things EXCLUSIVELY for the hardcore comic book fans. And pretty much all of them do it. They are EVERYWHERE...not just when Stan Lee pops up for his mandatory cameo...there’s tons more! Since it is Easter weekend, I decided to do my Bleeder Buddies a solid and count down the tippy-top 10 Comic Book Movie easter eggs! Read more...

Brian PulidoIt's not often I get to speak to a comic book legend and someone who has made his/her mark on the comics industry and changed things, but at Montreal ComicCon...well, anything can happen! And I got my chance to meet and interview one of the most innovative comic book writers in recent memory. Brian Pulido is a bit different than most comic book creators. Instead of making his name by writing comics about other people's characters, which was most common in 90's, Pulido created his own comics universe from scratch, came up with his own menagerie of wild characters like Lady Death, Evil Ernie and Purgatori, and tapped into the combined horror and heavy metal market like nobody else in comics history. Chaos! Comics in its 9 year run as a publisher, took sexyness, gore and violence to the next level and began a whole new era of edgy, indie comic books in a "Comics Code Authority" oriented industry, and helped usher in a new age of comics for grownups. And adult readers ate it up! Read more...

t 4When I heard that the legend Jim Starlin was going to helm a new Thanos Original Graphic Novel (or OGN), I was not sure what to do. I knew that I SHOULD pick it up...I have not missed a Marvel OGN since they began publishing them. And it is a big deal to have Starlin back with Thanos. But this was still totally different than the other OGNs for me. Avengers is a franchise I have now fallen deep in love with over the past decade (I don't care about everyone else's opinion, Bendis' run was absolutely fantastic). Spider-Man's was simply a must read. And why wouldn't I read the X-Men's contribution to the OGN library? But I have never. EVER. Been a "cosmic" Marvel fan. I never read Silver Surfer comics growing up. or Guardians of the Galaxy. or Adam Warlock. I had not read the Infinity Gauntlet until last year. So sitting and reading a book on Thanos...no matter how cool I thought he was in the biggest movie of the year...EVEN written by the man who created the "Mad Titan"...was not something I immediately saw myself doing. But I had decided awhile back that I would review and provide my opinion (no matter how valued it may be) on each one. So...here goes nothing. Sorry if there's spoilers!   Read more...
