Wrestling Icon "Rowdy" Roddy Piper Passes Away

Written by  Published July 31, 2015 06:25
We at ENR are sad to report the sudden passing of WWE Hall of Famer "Rowdy" Roddy Piper (Rodrick George Toombs) at the age of 61. Piper is considered one of the most legendary and iconic wrestlers of all time, and a staple in 1980's pop culture. Despite never being WWE World Champion, Piper is a notable Intercontinental Champion, Tag Team Champion and WCW World Champion. Piper is probably best known for his wrestling "bad guy" (or Heel) persona through most of the 1980's and berating his interviewees in his Piper's Pit interview segments and his famous rivalries with Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, Hulk Hogan, Goldust and even celebrities like Mr. T and Cyndi Lauper. Many WWE superstars today model much of their personas after "Hot Rod".

Piper also is noted for paving the way for WWE performers like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for making the transition to Hollywood as an action star. Piper starred in the cult favorite horror/sci fi John Carpenter movie, They Live in 1988, in which Piper is known for ad libbing the now classic line "I'm here to kick ass and chew bubblegum...and I'm all out of bubblegum."

The entire ENR and ExpertComics staff express our deepest condolences to Roddy's fans, friends, family and colleagues. He will be dearly missed.

As always, we have put together a small collection of famous clips and segments from Piper's illustrious wrestling and acting career! Enjoy.
