Let's start with Nygma versus Butch and Tabitha. Nygma wholeheartedly believes that Butch killed Isabella, Nygma's latest lady love. Nygma will work through his grief by torturing both Butch and Tabitha. So does this make Butch and Tabitha the good guys trying to negotiate with the bad guy Nygma? They're all technically bad so what's going to happen? We should think of someone as being the good and someone as the bad but it's all a little confusing here. See, Nygma thinks he's getting justice for the death of an innocent woman, this would make him a good guy, right? Both Butch and Tabitha are actually innocent in this incident so that makes them the good guys facing the evil Nygma. This one's really hard to decipher. They all seem to be victim's of circumstance, but it's hard to feel sorry for a victim who commits so many crimes.
Next we have Mario Falcone. What is going on with this guy? We've been lead to believe that Mario is a straight laced doctor who is about to marry Lee. He has no ties to his father's mafioso ways, nor any other illegal activities. This clearly makes him the good guy, right? Pump the breaks on that thought. After the first assassination attempt on the Falcone's we still believe Mario's a good guy. Then the second attempt, which is by far one of the cheesiest attempted murder scenes we've seen on this show. How odd that a courtyard full of people don't notice someone revving their two-stroke engine at the top of the stairs until they ride down them while swinging a large knife? Either way, Mario is only a bad guy by association. Or is he? Evidently Mario has some secrets and he's about to share them with a few people. It's still early in this match to see if Mario is actually evil. So far he's only attacked the people who were trying to attack him, so maybe he's still a good guy underneath that superhuman strength, veins popping and bloodshot eyes thing he has going on now.
In round three we have The Whisper Gang versus we're not exactly sure on this one. The Whisper gang was first introduced in Batman #3 of DC's New 52. The Whisper Gang is a Ukrainian mob based under the streets of Gotham. Luka Volk is leading this group and explains that the metal mask on his “trainee” is to keep him from talking. Once he can be trusted to not talk to the GCPD, or any other enemy, the mask will be removed. So we automatically associate The Whisper Gang with evil because, duh, mobsters. However, Luka is very convincing at being a good guy. He explains to Bruce that their mission is to stop the Court of Owls and it feels like Bruce has met another ally. They're looking for the key, that Ivy unknowingly stole, that will unlock a vault. What's in the vault? Good question, and it's surely what will keep the story going for awhile. So the Whisper Gang is going up against the Court of Owls, definitely evil vs. evil, but it's pretty clear who ends up looking like the good guys in this situation. Let's hope this isn't the end of the Whisper Gang.
If you think about it, this whole series has been bad guy versus bad guy since the beginning. The only good guys we've really encountered thus far are the GCPD and they're very corrupt. We can't even really call Jim Gordon a good guy after all of the things he's done.
Is Bruce Wayne the only good guy on the show? Is he really all that good? He did have that one incident with Silver St. Cloud where he tricked her into thinking she was going to be killed. Does that make him bad?
With so much bad going on it's nice the show gave us something good, the relationship between Selina and Bruce and Selina and Alfred. Selina and Bruce are assuming the roles of cute old married couple very nicely. When Bruce went full on detective mode in the kitchen and Selina rolled her eyes at him, yea, more of that please! Who can deny that Alfred and Selina aren't hilarious? They feed off of each other and the jabs they throw are great.
So now we just wait and see who will be in the next round of bad against bad and patiently wait for a good guy to come along.
